Firmly but very gently pry it up. Start at one corner. When you feel/see a little give (visual telltale is the shiny glint of the pins along the side edge as the CPU begins to separate from its socket), start prying an adjacent corner. Go all the way round to all four corners and repeat. Eventually it'll come out. There's a special tool for this, but I don't know anyone who has it. I used a flathead jeweler's screwdriver, but I probably shouldn't recommend it, being that it can scratch the CPU cover or maybe even damage the thing if you're not careful. You could try a small plastic/nylon screwdriver first (like those TV adjustment tools), but in my experience their shafts flex too much, so they don't provide enough leverage. (the proper extraction tool just looks like a very flat fork that slips under the cpu and between the pins btw, for anyone else peeping in on this thread)

When extracting CPUs, I prefer to work on opposite corners rather than "around the world." The reason for this is that if you work on corners around the CPU, you can accidentely lift up one side to high, bending the pins across the other side. If you work on opposite corners, you'll tend to lift it out straight.~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0
