Here comes a History lesson:A Newton, affectionatly known to its owners as a Newt. The Newton was apple's PDA. It was one of the first of its breed. The Newton linage contains the OMP, MessagePad 100, MessagePad 110, MessagePad 120, MessagePad 130, MessagePad 2000, MessagePad 2100, and the eMate 300. The OMP through the MP 120 used variations of the Newton OS 1.x, though some 120's have OS 2.0. The MP 2000 through eMate use 2.1. Some eMates and 2100's also may have 2.2, a prototype. The Newtons are the most expandable PDA's ever. Offering up to 5 GB of memory on the OMP, 100, 110, 120, 130, and eMate, and 10 GB on the MP 2x00 with the appropriate drivers they out-distance the current offerings by far. Sadly, the Newton program was prone to problems. The original handwriting recognition behaved very badly. This was fixed in 2.0, but its reputation stuck. Another problem is the size. The Newton was huge and weighed a ton. Still, I turn towards Cupertino every Feb. 28 and salute the Newt. LONG LIVE THE NEWT Pax ------------------ Where there's a Will, there's a way. |

To my knowledge the 2.2 rom, was the 2.1 with newtworks in the rom (for the emates (hard reset left the educational software needed), i hadn't heard of that in the 2x00s). There is a story about it at thisoldnewt (i think that's where it was..) that talks about how the chip manufacturer printed them with "2.2" even though they weren't told to by apple. _______________________ Sgt. I pulled the one on the 2x00s with 2.2 from the Newted community, somewhere in the forums. Yes, the Newton can take up to 10 GB of mem, but not with out drivers for ATA memory. I can only Find 1.8 GB cards though. Pax ------------------ Where there's a Will, there's a way. |
