As I understand it a powerbook duo 280c & a powerbook(erm any number)1400c have a similar architecture, with the 1400 having a larger screen.Could I hack the larger screen onto the 280c? Could I get a larger trackball for the duo 280c? More questions later I think. shaktiman Quadra 840av 128MB ram 2MB vram cd drive(caddy),1 caddy!:-)1.44 floppy drive,inject :-(1.2 gig drive 2 monitors 15" & 14" os 8.1 56k modem Stylewriter 1200 Zodiac speakers Umax 1220s scanner 3 year old son! |

No. The 1400 and 280c are both completely different beasts, because the 1400s have a PPC processor and everything. Also, there is no possible way that you can install the 1400 screen onto the 280c, as:a) They both use a different shell design b) As was stated before, they both use a completely different architecture. -------------------------- "I keep my friends close, but I keep my enemies closer" - Unkown Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6

No, you can't hack a 1400c screen onto a Duo 280c. However, it may be possible to hack a Duo 2300c screen onto a Duo 280c, as the 2300c's is very similar but slightly larger. I have no idea whether it would work 100%, and finding a good working Duo 2300c is an expensive matter (I've seen them sell on eBay for US$100 or more!).As for the trackball, there isn't any elegant way to put a bigger trackball on it. Swapping a trackball from a non-duo 68k 'book would probably work, but it would look fugly because the plastics wouldn't match (that and you wouldn't be able to close the Duo since the trackball would sit too high). However, you can swap a trackpad from a Duo 2300c onto a Duo 280c very easily! But, personally, I like the Duo's micro-ball better any day. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 I Have No Legs! Nope, the Duo 280c's display is 8.4" and the Duo 2300c's is 9.5". That's a pretty big difference! I'm pretty sure the hack would work, though, it's just a matter of getting a hold of a working 2300c display.

Hmmm, food for thought.I was keen on the trackpad idea, but if it be trackball so be it., can you attach a mouse? no I dont think so cos the duo dosnt have adb ports. Hang on I'll go & check. No no adb ball, or do I Perhaps I could hack the trackball wires & add an adb port! What do you think trash? A worthy hack indeed? shaktiman Quadra 840av 128MB ram 2MB vram cd drive(caddy),1 caddy!:-)1.44 floppy drive, inject :-(1.2 gig drive 2 monitors 15" & 14" os 8.1 56k modem Stylewriter 1200 Zodiac speakers Umax 1220s scanner 3 year old son! |

yup, it's a well documented hack from a couple of different approaches.but any of the portable docks will have one built in, so unless you have a specific reason for not having one attached, you'd normally just have a (SCSI, Floppy, or Ether) microdock installed and plug a low power mouse into it whenever you're not using a Duo in the dock or in your lap. jt ™.
