Free nachos and bean dip for everyone!*

*The term free is used loosely and does not imply that the aformentioned nachos or bean dip would be without cost or payment

we've got a new milestone coming up in addition to the MLA's first anniversary that's currently creeping its way around the globe.

when a few more of the comrades make another handful of posts the first postcount page won't have any more starting members on it! i wonder how long it will take until everyone on that page will have had to meet the full membership requirements?

btw: while i'm on the subject of paging, how the heck do you get to the SECOND page in the postcount listings? when i select any page number at all it just sits right there and never loads!

JT, here's what you do. Go to this link, which is the second page of the members list. To get to the 3rd-11th pages, just change the last character in the URL (in this case, the number "2") to any number from 3-11 and boom, you're there!

I've noticed that occasionally, in some browsers I've used, the drop-down members page selector doesn't work also.

Advising Trash to "hack the link"?

I allways wondered about this cos I hack quite a bit, it comes naturally, but I have less success with hardware hacking than software hacking.(were talking user end here not programming)

Hardware hacking can be the most fun, though I suppose the best recipie is a little of both. For instance, getting OSX to run on a Himalayan-ized PowerBook 2400 is something to behold, indeed!

Need I point out that by basing rank on the number of posts, you encourage really mindless posts (not excluding this one), more worthy of AOL Instant Messaging than a 'forum'?

On the other hand, Trash's 'full member' joke is worth the price of admission!

I Imagine hardware hacking to be fun & would love to do more, I am just not very good at it.

If anyone has clever hacking suggestions for a Performa 400, let me know & she may be liberated instead of resold or as well as resold on ebay.

but we should take this topic to lc/performa I think.

Sorry to way lay your post danny, congrats on the 500 thing, will I b next?

i just try not to become too much of a pest!

we've actually had this discussion several times before. i really think it's the joking around and silly stuff in the forums here that are the reason for the rapid growth of the MLA and set the barracks apart from the prissy businesslike sterility (entirely my own personal opinion based for the most part upon searches of archives) of the old newsgroups.

even fritter which, has in my experience. has always been a much more focused topic/information oriented forum and a very content oriented site has lately been loosening up and allowing horseplay to foster community building.

i really feel that it is the tomfoolery and the fun and games which is helping to create what i call "Dynamic Content" that is more along the lines of the human contact that was such an important part of the UserGroup phenomenon, businesslike troubleshooting is available elsewhere. it was the people and social contact that made NYMUG great not the just the information. the 68kMLA makes it fun and socially oriented again and i know that's why i stuck around. i've drifted in and out of different forums and groups for years before discovering this place and it was the horseplay with firewire at first and then the AIMlike i/o strategy discussions with cinemo about his 840av project that held my interest. when folks like the maniac started to bring much a more eclectic approach to life and obsessions to the discussion there was no way they could get rid of me!

dunno, as i've said before, if conspicuous displays of maturity and a focus on a sterile and efficient assembly of serious content and the exclusion of horseplay and peripherally related off-topic discussion ever becomes an overriding concern in the forums, i'm outta here!

I find these forums to be most informative & have rarly learned so much in such a short space of time.

This has got to me I think, along with moving house & 2 new jobs recently I.........

I need a holiday.

Maybe I just dont operate well in a sterile help environment.

As for the horseplay........

I have not laughed so much & so naturally at anything else for quite a while, I do belive that we have captured the "spirit" of 68k computing.

When user groups were rife & you had a choice of 5 or 6 computer companies rather than 2 companies(except it is 1 cos microsoft bought apple).

I never planned to & only as an aside use my computer for so called "productivity software"

I want innovation from my computer & niether apple nor pc are getting my bussiness at the moment.(apple 68k a different beast IMHO).

horseplay

I agree with trash about the atmosphere here. I think it's important to keep things relaxed and "playful". It helps the forums grow and also creates a pleasant place to escape to. I'll admit i've posted some worthless posts here, but i also have tried to help as much as i can. Heck, I've made quite a few new friends here and we keep the casual conversations to AIM. I forsee this place becoming VERY popular in the next year or 2 and we just need to do what we all come here to do: talk about 68k macs.

There was my mature post for the day. ugh... i feel dirty now

TOO MANY! Distribution of information on the exact count is on a need to know basis only, it's a security matter, loose lips sink ships and all that!

Let's put it this way, my Idiot under-cover alter-ego here is still pretty far up there in the post counts, the story on that can be pieced together using the search function if you really wanna know!
