cinemafia Guerrilla Recon Leader USA 2965 Posts	Posted - 22 Aug 2002 : 11:34:12 Just so you know, the DVD-RAM format isn't for video, it's for data only. In other words, you can use it to store data just like you would a CD-R, however, you cannot put video on it and have it playback in a standard DVD player. Worse yet, you also cannot store uncompressed audio on it and have it play back in a standard CD player. So, really, what you have is sort of a 5.2GB, write-once Jaz disk. That being said, there is really only one thing that's stopping a 68k from using such a drive. And, that is there's no software that I know of that will write to it. The DVD-RAM format wasn't introduced until a few years ago, long after major 68k development stopped, and getting an app that would be able to write to it would be difficult. I'm not going to say impossible, since, thanks to markymark, we have mp3 decompression on 68k's, but it's not going to be easy. 68k optical writing support stops with Toast 4.1.2 and NeroCD. Cheers for the reply cine, as ever completly coherent, what I wanted to know & more than I needed to know but a bit that it is good for me to know. 68kmac Anti development sources(Apple themselves I believe) are bad news for us. I really feel that we need liberation from them. We need knew development but we need to keep alot of what "used" to "make mac a mac". You can stop trying. MS/Intel has changed the AVI codec so many times that even the newest Macs running WMP 7 can't playback the video.
