Would it not be very cool to have an elderly PPC (or 68k) performa with the TV/FM tuners and Video system/MPEG decoder that could act as a Personal Video recorder? With a replacement DVD drive and a HUGE Ginourmous IDE HD that could store the Television shows. BeOS can't control the internal speakers, so using that is a must, MORE SOUND!! Even then, the 5500s had 2 PCI slots? and the comm slot, if the apple hardware isn't enough, someone can add ethernet for internet connectifity, and a hardware DVD decoder, and at least one other thing that is just plain cool. one of those Apple PC cards would really make my day. With one of the Directors editions (anyone with an DE) it would look REALLY cool too. think... a black "personal media system" running the Mac OS, and windows, that can watch Cable or Air TV, listen to air radio, use composite or Svideo external devices, in addition to playin CDs and VCDs and DVDs and using the INTERNET for iTV and iRadio, plus your email, and internet browsing... the only thing much better is if the screen were 25" and the internal speakers worked in Mac OS Official 68k videographer |

it would be a lot of fun, i wonder how well the MPEG decoder card works? is it compatible with the Quadra 630?photo of Apple MPEG System: http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA015761/Hardwares/images/5200-MB.JPG mention of it in tidbits: http://www.tidbits.com/tb-issues/TidBITS-338.html fritter thread: http://www.applefritter.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.pl?board=software;action=display;num=1025945211;start=10 i wonder if it improves the videocapture of the Apple Video System? considering it has that direct cable connection it might be able to really accelerate recording as well as playback . . . hrmmmm? jt ?. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF p.s. it seems to be for playback only, found the manual for it: http://manuals.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Manuals/software/0307406AMPEGMDAIG.PDF› Edited by - Trash80toG-4 on 18 Aug 2002 20:59:40 |

in that case, here it is in living color over in the "NuBus Mafia" collection!SIALUP DISCLAIMER! these are 432k (front) and 616k (back) jpegs http://www.applefritter.com/boards/video/appleMPEG/MPEG_Card_Front.jpg http://www.applefritter.com/boards/video/appleMPEG/MPEG_Card_Back.jpg quote from apple site: quote:
Key Technologies UpdatedOther key technologies updated in System 7.5 Update 2.0 include: QuickTime, QuickDraw GX, QuickDraw 3D . . . . . . QuickTime is the multi-platform standard used by multimedia software tool vendors and content creators to store, edit and play synchronized graphics, sound, video, text and music in multimedia applications and on the Internet. Version 2.1 provides developers with a high-performance sprite engine, with all sprite images stored as QuickTime compressed images. . . . . . This version supports the Apple MPEG Media System, providing expanded MPEG support for multimedia developers.
http://developer.apple.com/macos/opentransport/press_releases/System_7.5.3_Press_Release.txt google around, there seems to be an updated driver that allows video capture using the "MPEG Media System". btw: it supports the Quadra 630, but not the DOS compatible version. (it might only be that the DOS cards i/o board fills the LC PDS slot, it may run fine if the DOS card is removed, but i wouldn't bet on it) shreve systems had them NIB (IIRC) for $50 recently. jt ™.
