Based on a very rough Babelfish translation, looks like they bought a dirt-cheap PPC601/100MHz CPU daughtercard (most likely from a 7500), removed the CPU and stuck it on the LC475 motherboard to replace the 68040.I can't imagine that it could be that simple, though--there must be some pin modifications or something... At any rate, this guy seems to have made a homemade Turbo 601 card, but without the card, and with a bunch of ingenuity.

From the babelfish translation - they bought a cheap 601 card for a PCI Powermac, didn't have a Powermac to stick it into, and in time just cut the 601 off the card and glued it to the top of the 040 as a lark :D dana Quadra 605 Obsessions

Well, I've just taken a handful of stupid pills this weekend. Silly me, I thought they'd somehow gotten the 601 to work! I should've been more suspicious when I noticed the edges of what looked like the top of a 68LC040 CPU peeking out from around the PPC chip.

I wondered about that, but couldn't tell! { candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 3} { My baby: Q660av } |
