I'm working on setting up the router using ipnetrouter and i'm having more luck then i did before (..helps to read ALL the instructions). It says that it's more secure and operates smoother on a system with 2 physical ethernet ports. I've currently got it working on a performa 476 with 1 ethernet port and i could use a different system, but i didn't know if it was worth the struggle or not. My goal is to have my entire room on the router which would include, an email server (which might become the performa), an web server, the tracker, and my main mac, which gets a ton of internet use. Hmmm... the more i think of it, i might be using my q650 with 2 ethernet ports for this. let me know if you guys and gals know anything. thanks _______________________ Sgt. Using two ethernet ports makes sense from a couple of perspectives:security- With one interface, all your "internal" traffic is on the same lan segment as the outside world. So, someone else on that same segment could threoretically use a sniffer to see all your traffic. (This depends on what your connection is connected to.) performance- With one interface, the ethernet adapter has to receive and then retransmit every packet. If nothing else, this increases the possibility of colissions on the network (with requesite retries) and also decreases the number of packets that the adapter can buffer/process at a time. Personally, I think it's worth moving to the 650. <<<john>>>
