Last night I was talking to one of my friends on AIM who had a 660av. He hadn't fired it up for quite a while until sometime this weekend, and it had no video, due to a dead PRAM battery. After getting it to boot up with the good ol' power switch off then back on trick, he told me I could have it, just because he didn't really have the time and space to really mess with it. He has other macs, an LC 520 [his first Mac], a beige G3 tower, and a graphite iMac DV SE. So I went over to his house and picked it up today. It's a 24/500/CD-caddy-loading, running system 7.1, just like it came new. The case is in almost like-new condition too. When he'd gotten it, it had come with an AudioVision monitor, but it kicked the bucket a few months ago. :( But he gave me the audiovision adapter, and some other cables and whatnot for it, and a cd caddy. It's a great little 68K Mac, and now I have both models AV Quadras in my bunch of 68Ks!macdaddy - 68KMLA Field Meteorologist 68Ks at my base: Q840AV,Q800, Q605, D280/DuoDock II,P550, LC 475,LCIII+,(2) LCIIIs,IIci, P410,LCII,Mac II Contraband: (2) PM G3/300 MTs, P6360, 5400/120,Q700/PPC 601, (2) 6100/66s

Well, it's not sweet to hear it when something's horribly wrong, but a simple Cmd-Power keystroke right after turning on an AV Quadra brings it out! One of my favorite chimes of death too, though IMO the sweetest death chime is the one the PowerPC upgrade card for Quadras makes. BTW, the 840AV does the same chime of doom. macdaddy - 68KMLA Field Meteorologist 68Ks at my base: Q840AV,Q800, Q605, D280/DuoDock II,P550, LC 475,LCIII+,(2) LCIIIs,IIci, P410,LCII,Mac II Contraband: (2) PM G3/300 MTs, P6360, 5400/120,Q700/PPC 601, (2) 6100/66s

which mac series has the drumroll-rimshot for death chimes? or the car crash? apple's programmers had some fun with the chimes of death, or maybe they were trying to make users think it is not all that bad when their system dies. I used to know of a site that had recordings of all the of the chimes of death on the macs, I will post it when I find it again CCC Master Sergeant Specialty: Camoflague (Mack Hacking) 68ks Liberated: Too many according to my parents |

That's the one that the power mac upgrade card does - the "Daaaah, Duuuh, Dooooo...[rimshot.] effectThe car crash is what the Power Mac x100 series does. btw, we should make our own page with the Mac startup and crash chimes on the 68kmla.com site...just a thought Edit...just put the Mac startup/crash sounds on the 68kmla hotline mirror server...68k.dyndns.org. macdaddy - 68KMLA Field Meteorologist 68Ks at my base: Q840AV,Q800, Q605, D280/DuoDock II,P550, LC 475,LCIII+,(2) LCIIIs,IIci, P410,LCII,Mac II Contraband: (2) PM G3/300 MTs, P6360, 5400/120,Q700/PPC 601, (2) 6100/66s Edited by - macdaddy on 14 Aug 2002 11:04:46
