is there any way to run a quadra 840av off the power supply from a quadra 800? i got a quadra 840av mobo off ebay to use for the video ports and use timbucktoo from my imac and record tv programs to it. then i got a complete q800for the power supply and put the cd and hd into an lciii. unfortunatly the acble connecting the ps to the mobo form the 800 is 2x4 pins at the mobo side and 11x2 at the ps end, but the 840av uses a 11x2 connector at the mobo. does the 840av use 8 power cables (in other words can i simply stick on a new connector) or do i need to get a new power supply.im irish, it is my duty to ask stupid questions. I just tore my 840av and 800 apart, and the power supplies have the same part #s. The 840av connector only has 1 unused pin on the psu end. the 800 has 12 unused pins on the psu end...It doesn't look too hard to hack, just a "few" extra 5volt and ground lines. Do I smell soldering flux?! I'll put some pinouts up for it later, but right now I have to go to band practice Artillery Commander/Engineer, 68kMLA Liberated: LCII , III+, IIci, Q700, 800, and 840av, P550, 410 Contraband: Beige G3/300 MT o/c 400mhz, (2) 6100's Keeper of the 68kmla Hotline mirror server: 68k.dyndns.org

The PSU's are EXACTLY the same. It's the mobo power cables that are different. I have an 840av cable that I may never get to use...would you buy it from me? Email...{ candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 3} { My baby: Q660av } |

well that would make things much easier, but i live in northern ireland, shipping it here would be really expensive (and the cost sending the money to you would probablby be more than than the cost of the cable)im irish, it is my duty to ask stupid questions. It will sort of be a pain for you to plug anything in, as the Q800 and 840av cases have different port openings in the back of the case and the internal connectors are in different spots...{ candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 3} { My baby: Q660av } |

That's fine since I plan on routing out the inner part of the back panel. Cosmetics aren't that important (especially on the back), I just want to get it up an running. Thx, -D

Search around over on fritter, there was a big discussion about this very subject withlinks, ASCII art pinout diagrams and wire color coding tables over there in the last couple of months. jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

Thanks, I have been following that thread and have that info, but it is all from the Q800/700/IIci/IIcx power supply end, not the Q840AV motherboard connector end. Still searching...
