Well, to my disappointment, I couldn't access my 660av through standard appletalk file sharing from OS X. I didn't see it in the Servers section of the Network window, so I tried the good old chooser (running under classic env., not booted into 9) but it said the server did not have the IP protocal required by OS X. Should I be running Appleshare IP server? What version? Looking on the HL server, 6.3 looks pretty big...I've got limited disk space here, at least for right now. I'll get a new HD pretty soon, but right now I have very little space. 5 looks reasonable. 4 is even smaller. What do I need?

Well, I've learned a few things

1) There is no serial number given for the Appleshare 4.0.2 on the HL server

2) Nothing above that version will run on a 68k, anyway, but:

3) 4.0.2 isn't even supposed to run on a Q660av, but seems to...

4) OS X can access older computers over appletalk. I assumed it was turned on, but it wasn't!

5) Just because something can do something doesn't mean it will. OS X and my quadra still don't get along, but they at least see each other now.

I get unknown errors and connections that are immediately unexpectedly interrupted. Both the quadra and the OS X mac can connect to a powerbook running 8.6. Is it finally time for me to give up 7.1? I suppose I could go to 7.5.3 or 8. I'd rather not, because they're both slower, but I need file sharing. Perhaps Appleshare File Server would help. I need the s/n, though. Little help, there? It doesn't do any of us much good without it. Other suggestions?

I don't really know, OS X seems to connect fine to my 7.5 Macs, but not older ones.

What version of appletalk (and any other important protocals) are you running?
