Is there any video player or A/V app that will let me view .avi movies on a mac (doesn't have to be 68k)? I've tried Quicktime with that AVI->Quicktime app, that didn't work, nor did Realplayer or (I was really desperate) Windows Media Player. Can anyone direct to something that would work on 68k or PPC?

If it's a DivX AVI, you'll need a DivX codec (Classic or OS X) or the VirtualLanClient for OS X.

If it's not a divx codec then it's probably the older indeo codec. Use google to look for indeo video 3 and indeo video 4 codecs. They should enable quicktime to view older avi's. I found that the newer avi's using the divx codec won't work well unless you have a really fast mac (at least a g3)

I'd recommend at least 500 mhz for DivX. On a 400 mhz g3 imac, it is still a bit choppy. Hmm, I think I'm straying from the 68k theme here...

Thanks, it works now that I got the DivX codec.

Another problem: Now I can't get any sound on my .avi movies. Is there some sort of audio plug-in that I need?

First use Avi2Mov to make a Quicktime DivX. This will fix the sound. Then play this file in Quicktime.

Or if you run OS X, use vlc.
