I don't think so, I think that 68ks require MPEG decompression hardware, and I can't recall ever hearing of a NuBus card that did it.

Someone, please prove me wrong!

oooh oooh oooh truevision nuvista oooh ooh oooh!

that's probably a lie actually :). I know it can decode/encode some form of *peg, don't know if it's compatible with anything commonly used on VCDs, or even if it were, whether or not a player was ever written.

(then you have to find one of the cards WITH the decoder board...)

No specs, but if anyone's interested here's one for sale. I might have to research this myself and see if I'm interested...

One problem using them (at least, mine - which is the same as the one above, but also has the jpeg codec board which connects to the cable y'see tailing off to the left of the pic) is they're pretty average mac monitor cards... more designed to just display an image for the sake of using the monitor they're usually connected to (one that can show PAL or NTSC video while capturing/playing) as a mac monitor for palettes, is my thought. When it comes to video capture for still or moving piccies however, they're "whoa".

Of course, if anyone wants to tell me they CAN be used as a nice n fast mac graphics card, using 4Mb of that dual-ported vram usefully... do tell!

The only Nubus MPEG-2 decoder card out there is the 3D0. It was designed to do streaming video, but it could also play VCD's and other such formats. There was a topic about it on 'Fritter that I put a whole buncha info in so why bother repeating it when I can just link to it.

I thought VCDs were Mpeg-1. I think the videovision card accelerates mpeg, but i'm not certain.

Oh yeah, you're right! VCD's are MPEG-1, and can be done by the Truevision card.

Yes. Get an Apple MPEG Media Card. It's around $15.00 on eBay. You could also try the Apple TV/FM Card for tuner/FM capabilities.
