well, I got the first emate yesterday (this one is actually a friend's). It was in spotless condition and had a working battery, although i don't know how long it could hold a charge. The problem was that the video cable suffered from that hinge issue that sometimes happens and the display on does half the screen and no touch input works. I found instructions to take it apart and the ribbon is currently at a friend's house being repaired.

Mine is still on the way and i'm afraid it might be in the same condition since I got it from the same seller, but only time will tell. I'll keep you all posted on the ribbon problem.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY INFO REGARDING THE RIBBON, LIKE A PART NUMBER!? I have a pdf of how to repair the ribbon by hand, but i don't have the tools or experience to fix it. I've taken it to about 5 different electronic repair people and nobody will fix it, they all say it can be done but to them it's not worth their time, so i'm out of luck there. I'll buy a ribbon from somebody that has a broken emate (of course that's an emate with a working ribbon) I'm becoming really desperate.

Mine has shown up today. My screen might soon be having the same problem, as in different contrast settings there is a strange cloud of dark-spot in the middle. Can you e-mail me the PDF you speak of? Later on I shall hunt down a service manual. If successful, I'll throw you a copy.

oh yeah!!! I was on that like white on rice! Emailed him a day or two ago, this week is a blur.

Sorry, i must have missed your request for the pdf, sorry about that. here it is: http://www.inventors-emporium.co.uk/files/emate%20hinge%20repair%20v16.pdf

it ended up that both emates are identical with display problems, but cosmetically they are spotless, so my friend is attempting (at this moment...) to do this repair but using conductive epoxy instead of soldering. If it works for him, i'll be doing that as well, but i'm still planning on buying a couple of these cables.

Be sure to check and see if you have a washer on the hinge of your emate. It's a MAJOR pain to get to, but if the washer is not there, you'll just poke the same hole. Apple fixed this in later models, but not the early ones.

As far as the dark spot on the screen when adjusting contrast, my 130 does that, but i've never had a problem with it, I think it had been used a lot.

Did either of your e-mates have the memory upgrade? I've gotten my mp2100 online for mail, but would rather eMate it, but I can't fit simplemail+phoney+ethernet drivers on the stock machine. Just curious. Now my fiance wants a eMate too.
