Hi,I recently bought my first mac - a Powerbook 180c! I love it, very good condition (doesn't have a I/O door). I ahve a few questions: - What some software people would sugest to run on the PB? - How do you use the security lock? - Are there any Apple made accesories for the PB 180C. Also, while this may sound cheap, could someone give me (for free) a QuickTime 100 and/or Newton (original model). I really neee these pieces of equipment. After purchasing the PB im out of cash. I can pay for shipping and I live in Austrlaia. Sorry for sounding desperate, Kapultsky |

Nice find there. Just treat 'er nicely and pray that she doesn't die on ya. I bought a 180c a few months ago for 25 bucks, complete with manuals, carry case and everything. i was over the moon, and the machine ran beautifully for 4 days. Then the interconnect board died. Either way, it sounds like yours hasn't been thru hell the way mine did, and i hope it will serve you will in the future. On my 180c, i would install System 7.6.1 (if you have the max 14 meg of RAM...mine did), as well as AppleWorks 5, iCab (or Netscape 4.0, if you must...), Norton Utilities 3.1, Claris Emailer 2.1, Claris Organiser, GraphicConverter 3.6.1, and some old games. Here's where i can really say, "Welcome to hog heaven".There's tons of great old gems that would work well on a 180c, such as Glider 4.0, Maelstrom, Apeiron, Barrack, AmoebArena, Bolo (!!!), SimCity 2000, SimTower, F/A-18 Hornet 1.1.2, Spectre, Myst, The 7th Guest, and many others. I have no idea about the Apple security lock...mine has the slot, but no...well...dohickey! I'm not sure about any Apple made acceseries for the 180c, but any peripherals that will work on an '030 based machine, (think anything Mac II, LC, LCII, LCIII, SE/30, Colour Classic etc) will just plug in and work fine, like a desktop Macintosh. Either way, have fun, and ENJOY THAT GOURGEOUS SCREEN!!!!! I remember when i first fired up my 180c...heh i couldn't get over how nice the display was.... -------------------------- Pizzabox LCs RULE!!!!!!! I would save a up a little and get, at the very least, a 120 with v2.0 rom or 130 for the backlight, i think they are going for around $35-50 usd on ebay. Trust me, they are worth it. Unfortunately I don't think you'll be finding either of those items for free. BTW, WELCOME TO THE MLA!!! _______________________ Sgt. If you don't mind having M$ products on it, you could try Word 5 or 6. Both run on a 68k, and M$ gives away a converter at Mactopia that lets it read and write Word 98 files. As for old games, if you have a mouse, try Crystal Quest. Another good game that will run on it is Boom (by Factor Software). Both Newtons and QuickTakes are semi-rare collectors items - you won't get them for free. An OMP goes for around $100 AUS, but I wouldn't recommend getting any 1.x Newton.~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0
