I am being forced to sell all of my computer stuff, and not being allowed to buy more... computers are the only thing I have left in life (most of them are 68Ks) and without them, I have no mreason to go on. this just adds to the voices in my head and the urges to (heaven forbid) distroy my beloved beige G3 AIO or other things of vlaue, and the urges to kill small, fuzzy animals, and even myself; also sometimes people, but more me. does anybody have suggestions? I need an opinion on what I should do......

Thnx

[Disclaimer: I am not a psychiatrist and/or a psychologist. I am not responsible for the consequences of this post. If you believe yourself to be mentally ill, seek the advice of a professional.]

OK, here's what to do.

1) Admit you have a computer addiction. Denial is just another cow in the middle of the one-lane gravel road to sanity.

2) Sell the computer stuff, knowing that you are really doing yourself a favor in the long run.

3) Find something to do instead of messing around with old computers. Learn to play a musical instrument. Listen to lots of bebop jazz and/or Pink Floyd. Get yourself in decent physical shape. Learn how to cook. Remember, you don't want your future to be in a small padded room in Missouri Lunatic Asylum #2, surrounded by old Macintosh computers and raving about how Woz's voice is in your head telling you to kill yourself.

And please don't kill any small fuzzy animals!

ahar ahar ahar...
lemme put it this way...

I do play a musical instrument (piano) just not that well
I cook pritty damn well (can I say damn here?)
ok... I have a little fat here and there, but my legs are in better shape than anybody else's I know (come to think of it, so are my arms)

fiddling and fixing old computers is the only thing that accually makes me happy, aside from my little plush toy hedgehogs (long story) and since all my friends moved away when I was, like, 6, I have allmost NO SOCEAL CONTACT outside of school... and since I was depressed allready, BEFORE I was forced to sell my macs... oh well.

ho hum... life has no point. why cant aliens abduct all the smart ppl off of this god forsaken rock, and blow it up, with all the idiots on it. now I am just dreaming... for ultimate irony, I think I shall kill myself by dropping my 60Lb beige AIO G3 on my head, but i'd never have the balls.

Oh Well

THnx

depression does suck. I'm recovering from depression and a few other random things. I don't take my pills anymore. You know what I did? I traveled to costa rica for a while and witnessed how suffering people live and it gave me a grip. So now I understand that no matter how crappy life can get, somebody else has it worse and i've seen it with my own eyes.
What I recommend is to SWEAT (from something active) everyday, SLEEP a lot (those 2 get the chemicals in your head to naturally balance instead of using the drugs.), and do those things that you never imagine yourself doing (some examples are ride a bike across your state, i've done ragbrai, the bike ride across iowa, 3 times since, take a martial arts class, join a club of some random thing that you have no clue about, for me plants and last, but not least, visit a church, you'd be surprised what a community in faith can offer.) Find somebody that you can just let lose with your problems, I had friends that listened to me and saved me a few times. Hell, email me, i don't mind.

p.s. I think we could do a covert op and send a 68k your way.

p.p.s. the Missouri Lunatic Asylum #2 isn't all that bad, good food.

Or maybe even a couple? I wish i could help, but unfortunately, the PAF prevents me from doing so. BTW, if you are going to do a Covert Ops operation and get some more 68ks, i reccommend PowerBook Duos. While any PowerBook will do, Duos are small, light, and are easier to go undetected. One time i was doing a Covert Ops operation to try and get my 145B to school in my book bag, but mum noticed that there was something in there heavier than a bunch of MacAddicts and textbooks...

Really though, any sort of PowerBook will do you fine...especially the 1xx series. Apart from the Duos, they are the easiest to hide machines, due to their size and weight. While you could get a Colour Classic or an SE/30 or something, a PowerBook of some sort is smaller, and therefore can be securely and safely stored away when it needs to be hidden.

Good luck, comrade!

I've found the solution to my problems!! sell the comps to friends! that way, I would get to see them once and a while... oh well. BUT NOBODY IS GONNA MAKE ME GIVE UP THE FIRST MAC I EVER USED! it's a trusty IIsi, but from between now and 1994, it has been overstripped... it used to have 2 monoters, and a ROM SIMM, but it still has simcity 2000... oh how I miss the good ol', carefree days, when life wasn't clouded by complex opinions and views... alltho, I was kinda like a 40 year old man in an 8 year old's body, I still had absolutely NO CLUE as to what was going on around me, exept the fact that I couldnt find my atari 400 in my grandpa's basement... YES LEEMAC!!! YOU WILL GET YOUR MONEY ORDER SOON (as soon as I get your address) and... if MrLynn is still alive (why arent you answering my Emails?) I would still like you to donate that IIci to my school... Hey! thats another way to allways have macs to work on! hehehe... it'll cancell all the "you suck! you should kill yourself!" vouces in my head and amp up the "you have a point" voices! yes... that would be nice if you could slip me like a Duo 230 or sometin... oh well.. wishful thinking... not gonna happen.... my dad is gonna start calling me a stupid retard again... you see, h crushed me, when I was very young, and so I am very weak-sperited, and he will make me get rid of the laptop (that mis if he can find a duo in my backpack, which is allways so crammed, that 4 pounds wont make a diff) hehehe... as soon as school starts, I'll be happier. but for now, downward spiral into oblivion.

THnx

Audey Murphy was the most decelerated (is that how you spell it?) soldier of World War II. After the war, he became an actor and starred in a movie about his war exploits called "To Hell And Back"

I thought at least JT would catch on to that...but I guess I'm the only old-movie buff 'round these parts...

ARGH!!!!
[/size=20]

my schools computer administrator has shunned me AND any hope of having macs in school! ARGH! why is it that whenever my life starts looking up, it all comes crashing down around me, and it gets rubbed in my face several times... Oh Well. I'll stop ranting about my problems, and let you guys get on with your life, because it must be a law of physics that a boy with long hair, named Robin must be depressed and insane for the rest of his life.

THnx
"we can not afford the licencing fees!"

this is the "reason" the school's network Admin would not put macs in the computer labs... 7-8 macs! ghrrrGHHH!

if the hair thing isn't an integral part of the way you see yourself, get a haircut and do a little weight training or push-ups and pull-ups. if it is, maybe just work with weights a little as part of that sweat and exercise progarm mentioned in a previous post.

but whatever you do, follow the golden rule and walk tall. don't worry about the name or the hair or anything else about you. if you treat people fairly and are helpful, people notice YOU, not the incidentals!

just $.02 from another depressed guy, it felt really good the other day to have one of my younger brothers tell me how much he appreciated that advice from me back when he was in high school, tho! maybe it'll work for you too.

This thread should reinforce to us all that we are true hardware addicts. As with any addiction, however, there are drawbacks. You spend way too much money on them, and begin to isolate yourself from others because they don't understand your obsession.

It's good to have this place, though, because it reminds us that we are not alone, there are dozens and dozens of other whack jobs out there that are just like us.

Been too busy for forum-surfing lately, but I responded today to your e-mail and your post in the Trading Post today. Sounds as though it's just as well I decided to keep the IIci for now.

I suppose the school IT guy has a point about licensing fees, though with obsolete equipment and software they couldn't be much. Perhaps you could put together a proposal for an 'historical Mac' corner using ONLY public-domain software, software from companies that no longer exist, and software that is no longer supported by companies that do exist. I would expect that such firms would respond positively to a student request for a gratis license for a dusty old program that's no longer sold. Tell them it's for a school project.

And MAKE it a school project. Get the IT guy, and the principal (or headmaster?) to give you official blessing to create this historical corner. If you can talk them into making it an independent-study course, or some such, you might even get course credit and some funding--who knows? A little entrepeneurship and creativity can take you a long way.

Of course, there will be setbacks; there always are. On my wall is this from Winston Churchill: "Success is going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm." Churchill suffered plenty of them before becoming Britain's great wartime prime minister.

Teenagers always over-react emotionally, and always turn molehills into mountains. JT's advice is good; I would add: It's summer. You live in a beautiful part of the world. Put off the school proposal for a month and get outdoors. Go fishing, hiking, canoeing, swimming. Get out of your room and forget about computers for a while. There are other things in the world (my daughter collected skulls, bugs, birds' nests, shells, etc.--now she is a graduate student in entomology at Cornell!).

Cheer up! You've got plenty of time--if you really dig computers, there's college, grad school, and a professional life ahead, to devote to playing with each new generation of compu-toys!
