This afternoon, the CD drive in my 5400 died. I had an external AppleCD 600e that wasn't being used for anything, so I really didn't care. However, I had a working 700 MB SCSI drive left over from when I upgraded my 6100. I pulled the CD drive out, and discovered that the 5400 has a strange SCSI slot that lets the CD-ROM drive slide in and out. Thankfully, the adapter on the CD-ROM fit perfectly on the hard drive. Since the hard drive's SCSI connector was lower than the CD-ROM's, I had to prop it up with cardboard. I had no jumpers with which to set the hard drive's SCSI ID, so I took a short length of multi-stranded wire, bent it over backwards, and pushed it on top of the pair of pins. I put the drive into the machine, turned it on, and the drive worked. If anyone here has a 5400 with a dead CD drive, this might be something to do with it. Of course, it might be even better if it was a 68k Hack... Move or lock? ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

Keep it here. Because the LC/Performa 5xx and LC/Performa/Quadra 63x use the same "slot", this hack can also be useful for 68k users. -------------------------- Pizzabox LCs RULE!!!!!!! Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6
