One moment of silence please.

My LC475, otherwise known as "Elsie", or "The Hackintosh" is dead. I went to start it up this morning and i got a blinking question mark. I thought "no problem, i'll boot off my other drive", and it didn't work. I tried booting off a CD, both on my internal and external drive, and all i got was a sad Mac. If i try and boot off a known good floppy, it spits the disk back out. I tried taking out my 16 megs of ram and going back to the stock 4 megs, and it kept doing the same thing. No matter what i do, i can't get it to boot! So it looks like it might be the logic board!!!

I tried zapping PRAM many times, and i've also tried resetting the CUDA. I've got the battery out now, so i'll put it back in later on today and we'll see how we go. The service manual says nothing about it, and now i think its the logic board, because i've tried several hard drives and floppy drives, and they keep doing the same thing. I think its dead. Now, for the funeral:

We have assembled here this morning to witness the death of a loved one. That one is Elsie, my LC475. Elsie was liberated by Warrior maclover5 earlier on in the year when she was sitting on a shelf at the local AppleCentre, and was given to Warrior maclover5. At this time, she had 8 megs of ram, and a 160 meg hard drive. When Warrior maclover5 took her home, he had a play around with her, and played some of the games on the hard drive. However, then he decided to take her higher. He put the 160 meg hard drive in the place of the 40 meg in the PC case, and made Elsie the Hackintosh. He then did a clean install of Mac OS 8.1 after bumping up the ram to 20 megs. At this time, Elsie was feeling pretty happy, so maclover decided to have some fun with her by playing some games. A few weeks later, the Warrior borrows an AppleCD 300i+ and installs it. WOW...what an improvement! No more caddies! However, a few days later, the 160 meg hard drive dies, and Elsie is placed into semi-retirement because of unavailability of a bigger drive. A 1 gig arrives. COOL!!!! He plugged it in to her internal SCSI, and it fails to be recognised. He boots off the OS 8 CD, and reformats it in Drive Setup. NICE!!! Elsie, you too can now THINK GIG!!!!!!!! So for a few days Elsie and maclover5 have some fun with their new toy. Tuesday: OH NO!!!! TROUBLE STRIKES!!!!!!!!! Elsie is now dead and can not be ressurected!!! At this point, i was (and still am) very upset about this. Now i just need to find where i can get a new board locally cheap. Bloody Seagate hard drives, killing my beloved Mac like that...

There are few things sadder than having one's liberated count drop.

It already happened. By the way, i have been playing a few sad songs, including numbers from Elton John and Celine Dion (Now don't go dissing my sick taste in music! )

However, she is still sitting in her rightful position, as there may be hope yet. When i get a chance, i'm going to go shopping, have a look around at all the Mac shops in town, and see if i can pick up one for 50 bucks or less. While i'm there, i'm going to also try and pick up a 32 meg 72 pin SIMM and an extra 512k VRAM SIMM. I know that when she came back to life she would feel lots better with max ram and VRAM... :-D

I'm really sorry to hear about your LC. I have one for sale on ebay; if it doesnt go I am so moved by yr plight and by yr obvious love of Mac's that I am tempted to let you have if just for the good karma. I'll let you know what happens.

Well, the LC is a slow, old computer completely un-rare...
The 475 is a fast, new (!) computer, not as common.

You know what? I got one of them for sale too.

Obviously got to get a better moniker if I'm gonna hang around here much longer.
