I just installed more ram & now really do have 128 MB, I used to have 84 MB. When I used to set the ram disk i'd set it to 10080, but now with the new memory configuration it puts it to 10752! just somthing which may be of interest. shaktiman Quadra 840av84meg ram2meg vramcd drive(caddy),1 caddy!:-)1.44 floppy drive, inject :-(1.2 gig driveCompaq 15" monitoros 8.156k modemStylewriter 1200 printerZodiac speakersUmax 1220sscanner3 year old son! |

Very good! My 840av is up to 128MB of RAM, too. I don't ever use the RAM disk, though. I think I may every now and then to do some Resedit hacks, though. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 I Have No Legs! |

I use the ramdisk sparingly enough, there is no point interfering with the memorys "real job".I hope I understand the numbers correct, I believe I have a 10 MB ramdisk. I set the internet cache to use the ramdisk but only 5 MB of it. The other 5 MB I would use for saving a large file(which just took 20 mins to download) or just like that for dumping somthing quickly. shaktiman Quadra 840av128meg ram2meg vramcd drive(caddy),1 caddy!:-)1.44 floppy drive, inject :-(1.2 gig driveCompaq 15" monitoros 8.156k modemStylewriter 1200 printerZodiac speakersUmax 1220sscanner3 year old son! |

Good idea on using the Ram Disk to do caching for your web browser. Make sure tho that the Ram disk is large enough to hold the entire contents of the browsers cache. You don't want the broser running out of room to cache and giving you problems. It also may delete older files in the cache as it runs low on room. This would defeat the purpose of the fast cache since the browser has to download the page again anyways. By the way, using the Ram Disk to save files off the net really wont do you any good performance wise. The files download at a slow enough rate that it doesnt really matter how fast the storage device is.
I've found that ram disks dont really have too much use in desktop applications. Only for such uses which may require quick actions.
