I just installed an Apple Video System card in my Performa 636. I noticed that on the card itself there is a small slot to plug something into. I can't find any reference to it in the specs or manual. Any one know what this slot is for? Mpeg card? FM tuner? Snow-cone maker? mathgeek 68K Macs Liberated: LC, Performa 636, IIx My Powerbook 1400 page http://www.its.caltech.edu/~dgoulet/1400/index.html |

my guess would be the MPEG card for the PDS. shreve has them, but they wanted $50, so i got 2 LC PDS PAS 16's and an extra remote control for the same price instead. I may get the MPEG card someday too, but not for that price. maybe there's a manual for it on one of the gamba links with the info you want, dunno. you can get the exact product name off shreve's site to google with tho.jt ™. Thanks trash, a little googlin' did reveal that the slot is for the ribbon cable connector that attaches to the Mpeg card. I'm not sure why I would want one of these, especially for $50. What are they good for? A snow-cone maker would be more useful in this 90 degree LA heat (thats 32 for you celsius types or 305 for chemists, physicists and other nerds). mathgeek 68K Macs Liberated: LC, Performa 636, IIx My Powerbook 1400 page http://www.its.caltech.edu/~dgoulet/1400/index.html |

68k's weren't robust enough to do software MPEG encoding, like PPC's can. So, you needed extra hardware to get streaming video in or out of a 68k, and that's what you'd need it for. You think it's hot there in Pasadena? It was 105 up here in Canyon Country the other day... 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 I Have No Legs!
