Ok, I have a linksys crap-shot router. To get a open port, i set the dmz host to one IP address (that's all it will allow). My understanding is that the dmz is completely outside of the firewall, is this true? If not, what is it?!

Second, unfortunately I can't mess much with the routers physical or software setup, although i do play with settings sometimes, my dad just never finds out.

So what i want to do is setup a router in my room requesting that ip address that is the dmz host so then other machines could be beyond the firewall. Can any of the available 68k software routers allow this or is this just a firewall thing and if i avoid software firewalls i should be ok? And if i set this up on a 950 would it perform the same as a $100 hardware router or will i be losing speed due to computing. thanks in advance
