I've just recieved a LS475 but know nothing about it. I have a few questions to ask. 1) can I download programs for it on my pc. 2) Is it good for anything or is it just too outdated. 3) Will it run linux, I haven't tried to get it to work yet and don't know what OS is on it. 4)Is there a site where I can get more info.
Thanx for any help in advance

Yes. If you have System 7.5 or higher, you can read PC disks. However, you will need Stuffit Expander on the Mac to decompress archives and encoded files.

Of course it's good for something. It can play games (see http://mac.the-underdogs.org/ ), do word processing, and serve as a webserver.

It has a 68040 processor without a floating-point unit, and will therefore require a processor swap to a full '040 to run UNIX. See http://www.lowendmac.com/quadra/q605.shtml There is a mac68k port of Debian Linux, and there is also a port of NetBSD. Apple made a version of Unix called A/UX, but it's quite out of date. X is quite slow on Mac IIs and Quadras, so you'll probably want to stick with the command line. If you need an OS for it, Apple has released System 7.5.3 for use with older Macs, and there is a free update to System 7.5.5.

See the Low End Mac link above.

These are great little machines.
What's interesting is that the connector J18 on the motherboard determines whether the machine is a LC475 ( no jumper) or Quadra 605 ( jumpered). Also, the LC of course has the LC case with the front foot to raise the case whereas the Quadra 605 has the mini-6100 looking case with the fat feet that stick out from the sides.
