Looks like a Centris 610 mobo to me, probably is, since the seller reports it having the 20 MHz 'LC040 in it.

The Centris 610 only has 2 memory slots. The mobo in the picture has 4. My guess is a Centris 650.

It can't be. I've worked on Centris 650's, and they use a more narrow logic board. Also, the power connector is different, and the internal SCSI plug is in a different place. It looks to me like a PM61xx form factor board, so i'm guessing its either a Centris 610 or 660AV mobo.

it's a special protoype for the WGS 950, with a slotless architecture intended to save apple a $14.65 on every unit sold. it's almost unheard of today because it was known by the code name "turtleneck". (who needs expansion capability in the best server ever?) <rolleyes>

actually, did the server version of the 610 box have more memory slots than the 610? that'd make sense.

BINGO, there was no way i could resist the curiosity so i checked out applespec. 4 SIMM slots in a 610 box, that's what it is allright, WGS 60, if nobody else wants it i'm going to try to nab it at the end of the auction.

I have a Centris 610 and there is no way that it is that motherboard, the Centris only has 2 memory slots. The 660AV also only has 2 memory slots.

I'm not at home right now, so I can't check my Q650, which is the same as the C650 with a full '040.

I've never seen an Apple server with a 68LC040 processor. Their servers all have full 68040's.

Notice, however, if you look closer at the slots, 2 of 'em are narrower than the other 2. The narrower ones would be for the 68 pin VRAM SIMMS, then the wider slots are your 72 pin RAM SIMM slots. Everymac reports that "3. Both 256k SIMMs can be replaced with 512k SIMMs for 1 MB." So, definitely those two slots nearest the SCSI connector/ports are VRAM slots

Aha, good eye! The picture is so distorted it's hard to tell. Based on this latest evidence, I renig my claim that it is absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt not a Centris 610. Appologies.

concur, it's difficult to tell them apart on micromac's piccies!

http://www.micromac.com/macpixpages/a_mac_centris_610.html

this is the Centris 610 for sure, the Sonic controller and the AAUI connector for built-in ethernet are both missing on the eBay board. micromac's pic is of a Quadra 610, they use the same pic for the all the rest of the 610 format boards too!

i wonder what the WGS 60 really looks like or if applespec is wrong yet again?

Don't know, I googled 'til I can't google no more trying to find a picture of one. None on eBay either.

The Applespec DB has a note on the Q610 saying, "Some units shipped with a 68LC040 processor (no FPU), and some shipped with a full 68040 processor." However, AAUI was standard on the Q610 (at least according to Applespec ), and optional on the Centris (my Centris just happens to have one).

If you mean the WGSs - from what I remember, they were like performas - different only in the software bundled with them, ie a performa xx01, xx02, xx03 etc is just a powermac xx00 with certain software.... and the WGS xx50 is the same as the base one - but came with the server software preinstalled.

Slightly? (takes a step back from the screen)

Doesn't matter if you can see the difference, you can read what it says on the mobo.

Happy Birthday! (I think its still your birthday in this timezone)

Oh, and can you create a more detailed version of the q610, I can't quite see all the transistors on the 040.
