SEking Duck visit 68K MLA Hotline server and access directories "Operating Systems -> 8.x" to download System 8.1.SEking Duck use PC to write 8.1 files to CD and use on Mac. Problem being now the filetype and creator values are needed. Someone who has files on their system: pleased to tell me what correct filetype and creator values for the specific file under the name "Mac OS 8.1 Multi-Install.img". This way SEking Duck can use 8.1. Many appreciated, thanks.

um, that would be best if quadra or Da Penguin tells you that since they host the server. -Danny PS Are you just learning english? my guess is that this would be one of our .jp counterparts babelfishing this way. the structure of this post sounds an aweful lot like correspondence i had with someone in helping to get his VidCap card up and running. i always assumed it was translated japanese because it resembles the babelfish text i see on the translated .jp sites.this seems to have been cleaned up a little also, are you learning english and using a translator also? Apologies if I have maligned honorable gentleman from foreign country, still learning English (as Charlie Chan might say). The use of correctly-structured phrases like 'the filetype and creator values are needed' threw me off, thinking it was an 'All your base' put-on. Sorry. /Mr Lynn PS Can someone actually answer his question? i don't do hotline so i can't, is the right server even up to look and pass the info on?maybe he'll tell us where he's from, it may not be .jp on secont thought, considering the fast food menu reference, dunno. there's a guy from spain (?) over on AF who sounds kinda like this, but he knows a LOT of english to backstop what start out an easier translation problem to begin with. jt ™. Okay. The file is a disk image, basically every block of the original OS 8.1 CD written to a file. You don't burn the image file onto the CD-ROM, because then the CD-ROM won't be bootable. Instead, you burn the disk image. I'm not sure how to burn a Mac CD on a PC, but I'd bet you would choose the option in your CD burning software to burn a raw device image.Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert OpenStep Page at http://openstep.topcities.com/ Macs Liberated: SE, IIsi, Quadra 700, 6100, PB 5300, PowerMac 5400 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |

I need a new copy of the 8.0/8.1 full install because the OS on my Quadra 840av got corrupted, and I'm having a hard time, myself. I tried downloading the 8.1 installer from our main Hotline server (68k.torpedobird.com) and it won't mount, it seems to be corrupted or incomplete. Also, I can't get onto Quadra's mirror server (68k.dyndns.com) because it says the network address is invalid...what's gives??666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 I Have No Legs! |

I found the same problem. When I try to mount the image I get an error message: "unexpected end of file encountered". Has anyone been able to mount this image? mathgeek 68K Macs Liberated: LC, Performa 636, IIx My Powerbook 1400 page http://www.its.caltech.edu/~dgoulet/1400/index.html |

Okay, I got the 8.1 image off Quadra's mirror and it mounts fine, I burned a CD of it and finally reinstalled 8.1 onto my Quadra 840av. Yay!666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 I Have No Legs! |
