Specifying color limits you to only a few choices:

Powerbook 165c
Powerbook 180c
Powerbook 520c
Powerbook 540c
Powerbook 190cs

Ethernet is not available by default on the 165 and 180, so you are left with the 500 series and the 190cs.

Personally, my recommendation is the 540c, because it has the fastest of the processors, 33MHz 68LC040, AAUI ethernet, and an active matrix color screen. These definatly make it worthwhile in the long run. (Recommended upgrades when you get the money are the 32MB RAM upgrade, $70, and the PPC upgrade, $100+). Main disadvantage to the model is the battery requirements. I highly recommend dual batteries (active matrix displays suck down juice!). More than likely, the battery sold to you will be dead. Replacement batteries are available from BTI for $150 each.

Expect to pay around $100 for a Powerbook 520c, more for a 540c. Around $150-200 for a 190cs.

I'm afraid Ethernet is also not a built in option on the 190's either , but you can put it in because of the PC Card slots.

Well, at least it is an option, unlike that on the 100 series (excluding 190).

If you just need the ethernet for file transfer, there is always the SCSI to Ethernet adapter, which runs about $40. Although, I am disappointed from the one I purchased. It does not jump onto the internet unless you are running 7.1 or higher, and your willing to put up with MacTCP. The one I got, from Asanté, comes with a short ADB power cable (connects to ADB port, and supplies power to the device), which never worked for me, and driver software... very poor documentation. Supposedly, Asanté has a lifetime warrenty on all thier products...

I still recommend a 540c. Best Powerbook you would ever buy.

I'm getting a 540c :-)

My Duo230 doesn;t have a working battery, so it doesn't work very well for being in the cafe or other places like that, and with no Ethernet, even less so.

I'm looking forward to having my 540c hooked up in the cafe, Ethernet connection to the DSL line in here, AppleTalk serial to my Newton, downloading e-mail via Eudora Pro for newton, and browseing the 68kMLA Forums...

don't forget a DuoDock II (which is far better than the original DuoDock and the DuoDock Plus)

And you need at LEAST a duoDock with the taller lid, because otherwise the Duo won't fit.

DuoDocks are nice. I'm puting a hard drive into mine.
