Well it was a fun vacation! My parent's came in to visit from Miami last Tuesday and stayed until late Saturday night. My dad brought his new 700MHz, 14" iBook, and let me play with to my heart's content. Wow...I love that thing. The screen is freaking the same size/resolution as my Apple MultiScan 1705! I actually managed to lock up OS 10.1, though, while trying to connect the iBook to my LAN, but a forced-power-off fixed the situation.I also got my recently purchased mint-condition Mac Plus out of the closet and told my Dad he could have it, since the Plus they have at home (which we bought new in 1986) has a bad CRT. However, they had too much luggage, so they'll take it home the next time they come. I left it setup on the floor in my daughter's room, and she had fun playing Shanghai and using SuperPaint on it. A single 800k floppy drive will truly sober an adult...but is lots of fun for a rowdy 2-year-old.
Oh yeah, and speaking of my LAN...it's up and running! All I needed was a crossover ethernet cable, which I received from an eBay auction last week, and I was set. I still need four more ethernet patch cables, though, as right now all that's connected is my 7500 and my Quadra 840av, but both are receiving TCP/IP (finally!). I'm picking up four more cables from a local eBay seller for $5 later today, and that should be all I need.
Another good piece of news, my dad is getting rid of his old NEC SilentWriter 95! He bought a new Epson laser printer for his iBook and iMac, and doesn't need the big, old-school printer anymore. He told me he's going to send it to me this week...HOORAY! Once I get it I can connect it to my LAN and have all my Macs (and the filthy IBM, too) print to it. That's one thing I can't do with my Canon multi-function BubbleJet machine.
