...not that they're all gone - or that the feetsmacs have up & feetsed themselves away... but I haven't had any NEW macs come in for aaaaaages, so I got a bit bored and grabbed a 475 tonight

booted it

unscrewed the lid to the HD

and used it for a few hours, ticking away in the open air. looks cool like that!

then I got bored, stuck the lid on, and have to find something else to do now.

Remember the hard drive perspex lid mod? I think it was cinemo who suggested doing it with RAID hard drives...

that one was cool, but imagine a vacuum formed clear replacement fot the aluminum pressing (top AND sides) on a drive like this one:

And I say "ha!" to them, cos the stickers were so old they were loose enough to just become unstuck and now it's all back together with nobody the wiser. muahahah

(not that Conner exist as anything much relevant nowadays... and I'm sure that along with the stickers going out of date, the warranty has too *grin*)

I pondered the perspect lid thing too. I'll have to think on it a bit longer, for the most effective and clean-looking way of doing it. preferably with another drive, as 40mb isn't much :P

One thing about 5.25" half-height hard drives (that generally were found in IIfx's and other full-size II's), they just look cool...and they're what the guy who did that clear hard drive hack used! The Quantum Bigfoot is a relatively easy-to-find and cheap IDE drive that comes in this format, generally as 4-8GB or so. It would be fun and cheap to try that transparent drive-case hack with one (or two) of them!
