There's no way to keep cables tidy except to install custom power point and cables. It's a fact of nature. Oh, at my desk I have 2 printers, 3 computers, 2 lamps, a scanner, a N64, and 5 recharging transformers. ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

I guess you mean power cords? the best thing I've found was the simple way my work desk was organised - have them all leave the desk in the same place (say, behind the monitor) either in a loop behind the desk, or through a hole in the desk itself... (a big hole - 3" diameter or so) then, use a run - just a few u-shaped pieces of aluminium or plastic etc, to loosely hold the cables up UNDER the desk, to run the cords along to a power strip at the side, and accessible from the side. My workdesk mostly had PC stuff on it - but dang the cabling was nice! It kept all the mess at the peripheral end and at the power end, with the rest staying nice n tidy :D dana (my home desk is shocking, however... *grin*)

knots, lots and lots of knots. It gives me something to fix on a rainy day. But on a more serious note, i suggest those cables.... i've totally lost the word i was looking for, but it plugs into the back of the quadra and into your monitor. for a while, i had my comp plugged into the wall, then 2 external drives and a monitor all off that one power cable from the comp. It was entertaining to hear it all power up at once. _______________________ Sgt. Thelip Heavy Weapons Specialist 950 division Liberated Macs: 12 |

Cables always seem to be quite a bit longer than they need to be. To remedy this, I take one of the twist-ties that come with garbage bags and use it to put part of the cable into a loop, making it shorter. The cable thelip is talking about uses the power out jack on the back of the 840av's power supply to power the monitor and/or other peripherals. Some SCSI drive enclosures also have a power out connector. With one of these cables, you can turn on your whole SCSI chain with one switch. Be careful, though; you can only run a certain amount of watts through a power supply. http://www.cablesonline.net/12montocompo.htmli think he's talking about the one like the one above with the connector to go straight into a standard power in connector if your monitor has one instead of a hardwired plug, that's what the one above is intended to fix. there is no pic of the standard type on this site. these are just generally useful along with computer power cable extensions. http://www.cablesonline.net/1footacpowca.html http://www.cablesonline.net/1footpowex.html jt . Most IEC mains output should be straight thru from the mains input, and thus should be the same as if you plugged it into an outlet. ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

I'm talking about something like this, where all the peripherals are plugged into one drive. |-----------| |------| |-------| |---------| |External HD|-|CD-ROM|-|Scanner|-|CD Burner| |-----------| |------| |-------| |---------|
You can end up running too many watts through the External HD. At least that's what my Rodime Systems hard drive manual says. in that case, they're worried about either the amperage rating on the switch or the wire leads they used in the box for the switched passthru.on a switched power supply on a computer the limitations would be the same kind of thing or for a relay if that's how they implemented the switching. i think ~coxy was saying the load on the passthru doesn't stress the power supply circuitry or use any of its rated power output, which is true. what the warning in your manual means is that it's not safe to assume that a switched passthru is always designed to handle the full output of a 15 or 20 amp AC line. most power strips aren't either, for that matter, that's why many of them are set to trip at 10 amps, the mfrs assume something else is plugged into the other half of a duplex outlet. jt ™. Yeah, the cable trash linked was what i was thinking of. They are really nice to have around. They help make things a little more organized. What's also sort of nice, is that you can plug that cable into a normal power cable to make it longer. What's succint? _______________________ Sgt.
