Ooof! Another liberation... and a heavy one at that!Just rescued a Quadra 950 from the evil clutches of the garbage man. I've yet to inspect it fully, but it seems to have a few problems...foremost being that the processor is missing! Its got a bit of RAM (I think 16 meg) and had a LaserMAX Nubus card in it... a printer controller of some sort I think. Also an Apple High Resolution Display card. The case is a bit yellowed, and it's missing the key , however it doesn't seem to have been treated too terribly. Hopefully its going to be rebuildable. Ack! another project to add to the (lengthening by the day) to-do list. Getting it home was fun. This is one LARGE computer.... and my wheels are a motorbike... you get the picture. Cheers! YAY for a 950! that's how i recieved my first one was in the trash. I've never heard of that card (the lasermax), might be interesting. What kind of connector does it have on the end?_______________________ Sgt. Thelip Heavy Weapons Specialist 950 division Liberated Macs: 12 |

Its one I've never seen before. Looks kindsa like a DB-25 SCSI connector... but its longer, with 37 holes. It would be a DB-37 I guess??? Its got 8 30 pin RAM slots on it... 4 of which are filled. The reason I'm assuming its a printer controller is 'cause googling LaserMAX + Nubus turns up only printer related links. Cheers! CC

Do you want a processor for it? Oh, I forgot, you've got plenty... ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

Google groups are another good search aid, if you haven't tried them before. I saw mention of the LaserMAX 1000, a 1000x1000dpi postscript laser printer from the early 90s, that came with its' own NuBus card, and mention that "later LaserMAX may release an appletalk version". At a guess the rasteriser has been put in a nubus card, and the main engine of the printer is separate like any other. Maybe it was cheaper/faster to do it that way, if it is indeed what the card's used for - or even upgrading to a new printer would only need a new print engine, instead of an entirely new logic board & all. Or or or... lots of other guesses :) dana (doing a lot of guessing...)

Hah! Yes, I do have plenty of LC040's floating around.... Only one spare full 040 though (thanks Flash!), so another one would not go amiss...'specially if it was a 33 Mhz or *gasp!* 40 Mhz part. Donations gladly accepted. BTW ~Coxy, how many microquadras is your friend going to want to take back with him again? Atthe moment I can spare 5 or 6... but I'm hoping to obtain another load of them shortly. Actually I have an order for 10 from a local primary school! quote: At a guess the rasteriser has been put in a nubus card, and the main engine of the printer is separate like any other.
So you're guessing that this might be a hardware RIP Dana? Cool! Although probably not very useful without the correct printer . Cheers! I'm not exactly sure, but he's muttered various things about his 'connections', maybe one of his cronies has a secret warehouse we could put a stack in to give you some breathing room... ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0
