I got my scanner!

It took about an hour to set it up

It didnt work so I fiddled with the scsi id

Then I read the manual(had to instal adobe to read the manual)the manual was of no help whatsoever

I then found a blue switch under the lid towards the back of the scanner, I switched this switch and it worked!

a word to the wise FIRST READ THIS MANUAL

COMPUTER MANUAL

find the on switch.

anyway b4 I go off on one

The scanner works and has put a big smile on my face, but it took a little while for me to find practical settings, I went straight for the promised land, ie: 96000 pixels & rgb millions of colours and my computer spent the next 2 & 1/2 hours(how can I get a fraction symbol?) scanning the photo at the end I ended up with a scan which although fantastic quality my computer wouldnt read, display, utilise cos it was too large!!!!!!!!

I am currently using the 256 colours option.

Try allocating more memory to your app:

Click once on app.
Command+I
Goto Memory in tab
Adjust the preferred size to a larger one. With 128 meg ram you should have lots of room. I wouldn't mess with the minimal setting.

I am having a spot of bother with my scannings.

(I know to allocate more mem)

anyway I am trying to scan a statement I recieved from the tax office. It scans but the writing is all blocky and cannot be read.

I scanned a mag cover and the writing(of a similar size) was readable.

hehe well....Photoshop is quite the expensive application...

unless you are talking about getting it bootleg which im sure you arnt...

Anyways, if the plug in isnt anything recent you can probably find Photoshop 3.0 or so on eBay for around $30 USD

This forum is actually pretty liberal with the whole abandonware scene, there's probably Photoshop 2 or 2 on one of our member's servers.

Are you using the UMAX Vistascan software? If so, try using their Magicscan software that came with their higher end scanners. Works beautifully with my UMAX S-12 (which is older than the 1220). Way more settings to work with and it seems faster too.
