Finally got to put my PowerBook 165c together. Great machine, as a matter of fact, i am now typing this on it. Woohoo good ol' Netscape 3.0.

Salvaged the ram and HD from my dead 180c, as well as the case and modem (56k POWA!!!!!!!), and it now has 14 megs of RAM and a 160 meg HD, running Mac OS 7.6.1.

Anyway, time to check up on what's been happening! (This brings me up to iThink 12, and 7 liberated...)

When you say 56k power, I take it you mean external???

Good going, anyway! Congrats, will we see you on AIM from now on?

May FlyingColours forever rest in peace.

As of 7:30 pm last night, FlyingColours died. I believe the problem is either a dead daughterboard, or interconnect board...probably the interconnect board though.

I fired 'er up last night, and it smiled and said "Welcome to Mac OS" like usual, but then the display started to dim, and then went black. Hooked up an external monitor. External video still works ok. Thing is though, i have no idea where to find spares for PowerBooks, and while i have a mile of spare 140/145/145B/170 interconnect boards, i don't have a single 165c one.

Ah well, maybe she had to go to heaven, but maybe she has gone to a better place.

My PB 165 did the same thing! I let it sit for a while without using it then one day i started it back up, franticly slid the contrast/brightness sliders back and forth, and it came back. I haven't used it much since (it was a little flaky), but there might still be hope.

Sounds like a good excuse to use it for an ultra-slim Mac Hack to me - I mean if the external video still works it'd sure make a nice Amiga-style combined computer and k/b thing. All you need to do it remove the screen, screeen mounts and the LCD power inverter kit from the inside, hell with the battery it'd even be portable and you could take it about the place and just plug it into other people's monitors

oooah this may not be completely fatal! My 540c, Skye, does similar things from time to time. The 540c case is kinda icky and most of them are broken just below the display - this lets the plug that gets into to the screen disconnect just enough for the display to... dim and die!. or freeze and dim out on me, or other funky effects, depending on which part of the connector has disconnected I suppose. Power still gets to the screen most of the time - and pressing on that broken spot always gets the image back - cos pressing pushes all the right connectors to where they could be.

Might be worth rechecking the connectors. if it's that simple - 3 cheers!.

If not... well... it gave you something to do for an hour hey?
