To quote myself, from "OpenStep Uploaded," with a few updates:

quote:
First, download and burn the OpenStep CD image. Disk Copy won't burn the CD image, saying that it won't be mountable after it's burned. You have to use XRay to change the type and creator of the disk image to "RCDm" and "PImg", respectively, and then burn it with Discribe.

NeXT, download rawrite.exe for DOS (from http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/MultiCountry/Enterprise/openstep/floppyimages) and put it on the Windoze box you plan to use. If you're running WinNT or Win2k, there's also a Windoze version that you can find on Google. It's the same program you use to write Linux boot floppies. Download the install and driver floppy images onto the Windoze box also. There are two images of beta drivers at Apple's site above that you may or may not need, depending on your hardware configuration. Rename the install image to "install.img" (without quotes) and rename the drivers image to "drivers.img" (also without quotes) so RaWrite will recognize them. Double-click on rawrite.exe and the "Micro$oft DOS Box of Doom" will appear (if you're in Windoze). Type in the complete path of the disk image you want to write (for example, c:\openstep\install.img). When asked for a disk drive, type a: or whatever your 3.5" floppy drive is. Insert a blank floppy into the drive and hit enter. The disk image will be written to the disk in the drive. Eject the disk, and repeat this procedure to make the other floppy. Be sure to label them so you know which is which.

For a complete installation walkthrough, see my site at the URL below. Before you install, check my site to be sure your PC meets all the requirements detailed there. You can probably live without a supported soundcard and NIC, but your video card must be either supported or VESA 2.0 compatible; there's a VESA driver installed with the Y2K patch. If not, you'll be stuck in 640x480 VGA mode. If you're going to be installing OS to dual-boot with Windoze, the Windoze partition will have to be in the first 2GB of the drive, so the OS partition will start within the first 2GB of the drive. If you don't have Partition Magic, you'll have to defrag with something like Diskeeper and then use fips.exe or presizer.exe to shrink your Windoze partition.

Good luck. The installation is pretty complicated because of the need for partitioning and driver installation, but OS becomes Mac-like after the second half of installation. If you need any help, post here or at comp.sys.next.*

Hi , I'm new to these forums. I downloaded the image, changed it to Type and Creator you told TiMacLover and opened it in Discribe. I have a ZipCD 650 USB and it doesn't want to select as a recorder. Do you know what the problem is?
