Ive always had a soft spot for a Porsche 968 and while we are being unrealistic I'll take a complete turbo conversion kit with it.As far as two seater cars go though a plain old 944 turbo would be much more realistic. MMMMM front engine Porsches.

dream car:Delorean, if it really was a dream it would have all the same mods as the one from the back to the future movies. non functional of course realistic car: datsun 280z. japan made this car to outperform all the performance cars of the day and honestly they did, better full economy, front wheel drive, more options. oh and an inline 6 that purred. my real car: 2000 gmc sonoma, extended cab, 4 cylinder and a 5 speed _______________________ Sgt. a first-gen ['67 thru '69] Camaro, or a late 60s thru '72 Chevelle, made into one mean mofo street machine! Even better would be an early 'Vette!Realistically, I'm drivin' the ol' '91 S10 Blazer till it won't go anymore, then probably I'd go find a newer version of the same vehicle, I like 'em so much. quote: Souped up 65 Ford Falcon,

One of 2:2nd choice is a Delorean, tho with a totally different engine. The original had a 4 cylindar that was horribly underpowerd for what the car looked like... But what I REALLY want is.. A 1968 or 69 Caddilac Ambulance, that I'd take in for an electric engine to be wired in parralel to the deisel already in it. Why you ask? What am I talking about? Well, imagine The Ghostbuster car ECTO 1... and add fins. I'd redo the entire inside, to allow storage and extra passengers. The back end is completely wired, and running off a second alternator for medical equipment, but I'd convert it to running power for laptops and such. Lights and sirens still work. mmmmmmm.... But now, I drive a 91 Dodge Shadow, that is a bit scary to look at. ~Marchie ~Chaplain Marchie Admin of The WonderLAN ~~"We are all Mad here"~~ |

Dream Car: Topping the list is the Audi RS4; the ultimate combination of balls-to-the-wall performance and family/luggage capacity.Second on the list is the as-of-yet unrealeased Volkswagen Golf R32. Same reason as the RS4, but in lower quantities. Realistic Car: Number one is a Volkswagen GTi 337. Now lets start with the facts. I am like a computer missing a couple of bits. I am a man but, I have little or no interest in cars, football and I am shit (am I allowed to swear?) at diy.I want a small yellow Citreon. an economical car that'll last longer than me. their is a car called a centris, so could one hook up a centris to a centris? shaktiman Quadra 840 av 128meg ram 1.2 gig drive 500 meg drive os 8.1 |

shaktiman brings up an interesting point...Those people who are deficient in the Do-It-Yourself gene. Myself, I've been raised in a family that does much work themselves. In the house we just sold, all the trim and paint, the bathroom tile job, were all done by us, as was the garage re-foundation and 3 walls. No, I don't live out in themiddle of nowhere, I'm in the middle of a subdivision, and there are plenty of construction companies that we could have called... but it wasn'tworth the money, since wecould do it ourselves. Myself, I neverthought of myself as a "car guy" who would be doing his own oil changes, brake jobs, etc... but afterI rear-ended another car, I didn'thave the money for the repair work to be done by a garage, and hadto do it myself. The result: a slightly-less-than-professional job, but it works. Right now, my dad is teaching me basic welding, and soon some metalsmithing (after we build a new shed we can put the forge in, and get the anvil this fall). I think that there are definatly people more suited to the DIY life than others, and just because someone can rebuild a car in the garage doesn't mean they can rebuild the garage. I also blame our (western) consumerist society, and the commercial revolution for making it possible for people to do less of their own work, why build a shed if you can go to Home Depot and buy one pre-assembled? This DIY v. non-DIYmentality/ability also impacts the computer world. Some of the "old coots" will atest to that I'm sure. How may of them assembled their own first computer, where I only had to unpack it from the box? I'm not exactly sure where I'm going with this... these were just kinda my thoughts. Eh... I'm feeling sick so maybe I'm just a little wacky today. ~Marchie |

Well, we built our own huge decking and paving when we put the pool in? After all, why should my parents have to pay when we have 5 kids who need exercise and can cut down trees, level ground, dig holes, cut timber, lay concrete, install decking, cart bricks, lay sand, cut and lay bricks, plant shrubs, lay reticulation and paint fences? ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

wow... no one here who thinks that a HUGE A$$ van would be cool !!!My dream van (which will probably make me go to Europe to get it) is a Mercedes Sprinter Passenger van, or whatever is the largest that they have, it's only 16,000+ british pounds for a panel van version (we probably have 8 tons of something lying around :) but realistic, i think that my mom has either a dodge or a ford passenger van that i can get, well... she has both but wants to use one of them, and i'll get whatever the one is that she doesn't want it's a funny story that i almost bought a Wayne Nosed school bus for less than $1000us, i called a day too late for the man had already sold it, but with an auto trans and a manual door, it was not too long and not too short for my liking, and with a paint job, some new glass, and cleaning it would have been the most wonderful thing that i can imagine, even more than that mercedes... all perfect for hauling large loads of friends and computer stuff to and from Official 68k videographer |

Wrong! I do, but I already have a BIG@$$ '76 GMC Pickup-Straight Six/Granny Low, it used to be the on-call recovery vehicle for User Group dumpster raids back in the day! I used to have a '86 Chevy Utility Van. Loved that thing, the one modification it had was a transmition from a Camaro. It actually made for a comfortable trip going between here and southeastern CT. My Dream Vehicle though?........That's a tough one. First hought that comes to mind would be to get back my old 76 Honda Goldwing 1000. Everything was customised for comfort on it. I so do not like large vehicles. My husband's car, a little Mazda Protege 4 door, is too big for my tastes. [rant] When somebody dies and I'm elected supreme being, one of the things on my agenda is those Lincoln Navagator, Ford Excursion, Caddilac Escalades ... they all turn into Geo Metros. Likewise with anybody who has a big ass SUV for ego trip purposes. If you don't haul cargo on a regular basis, or if you don't go camping on a regular basis, you don't have a good reason to need one and your SUV turns into a Geo Metro. I'd want to have a van, is that i probably would haul lots of people or lots of cool computer junk all over the place all the time, and vans, they make great tents... go camping and have like a folding cot.. ahh, heaven on wheels (no, i'd NOT like a camper van though)My parents had a Suzuki Swift, a metro clone, and they called it the death trap, no way either me or my brother are going to drive that thing, even the people we sold it tohave sold it, so I'd feel safer in something bigger alot of times i had to try to load a snotload of computer jhunk into that swift (at that point, it was not very swift) it didn't work very well, my AudioVision didn't even fit in the "trunk" Official 68k videographer |

Really, all I want is a nice old VW Beetle, preferably one from the early-to-mid 60's or 70's... that would be so nice! I don't really want anything fancier then that... The way I see it, the old VW's are the auto-equivalent to a 68k Mac: A little slow/low-tech by modern standards, but super-cute, simple and easy to maintain, and above all, fun! Plus, like that monster Quadra 840av that trounces a more modern PowerMac at certain functions, the older VW Bug's and Van's can be upgraded to amazing new powers. Just my two cents. Look, people, I wasn't saying that I'd make all cars teensy, nor that' I'd get rid of all SUVs or Trucks.Dana, my dear friend Steff is 6'2" in her bare feet, and she had an un-fun time finding cars that fit her. She currently drives a mid-sized SUV, a 1995 Jeep Cherokee to be exact. She drives it because she fits in it comfortably, plus she often hauls gear around, and she's moved house several times in the past few years. It's the right kind of vehicle for her. Now, let's take a look closer to home, shall we? My SIL (whom I like) drives a full size, Chevrolet Suburban. They have 2 children. Neither SIL or BIL have jobs which require the routene hauling of sizeable quantities of stuff. They are not into camping or off roading. Yet they have a land yacht that seats 8, can all but tow a tank and gets 12mpg on a good day. They've bought the idea of being rugged out-doorsey types. Their ego trip, and the ego trip of hundreds of thousands like them is having drastic effects on the environment and, frankly, SUVs are not very safe vehicles. They're top heavy and don't handle well at all. 68K's liberated: 4 68Ks adopted to loving homes: 2 PowerMacs adopted: 1

I do tend to just react and defend my falcon - It's been suggested to me so many times that I should get a smaller car... usually which I -can- fit in, as long as I don't have to use indicators or wipers, as there's knees in the way :D quote:

I must admit, we don't quite seem to have the same following for massive 4WDs like the suburban seems to. There's quite a few smaller sporty 4WDs here however, which fill a big part of the niche. Living in a country town too, many of the big old work sized vehicles do get used for exactly that, so I don't directly notice the city-type-who-doesn't-use-their-truck-for-truck-stuff too much :D dana (gotta have chrome though...) i think that when people have whatever kind of vehicle they want, it's what they want, and it works for them, also, it's kind of personal experssion, and yeah, sometimes an ego trip, but is it not an ego trip to have, like the latest in whatever the name of the latest dualie g4 towers AND 2 cinema displays, "just because"and just because you only have you, spouse and 2 kids doesn't mean that seating for more than 4 will NEVER be used... in my family, there's times when my brother and i each have 2 friends over, & we have a bit of family, so yeah, an SUV, or minivan or large passenger van would be nice also imagine, when i'm 16 and can drive, you don't want to be in one of those little tinny deathtraps when i suddenly decide that my van needs new brakes and i can't stop, the front of those cars is like a jump just waiting to be taken by a van or SUV coming head on Official 68k videographer |

Where I agree with SUV's are practical and a great assett to those of us that utililize their whole potential, I do remember some from around 1980's that was just insane. They were built by Lamborghini. Here are some of the stats below with a link to more info.LMA - LM 002 In 1982 the LMA (A stands for Anteriore = in front) was ready, it had the V12 of the Countach mounted in front, it had power assisted steering and room for 6 persons in the back where on the LM 001 the engine was situated, the impact of the LMA was impressive, and the commercial potential looked very good, so, the LMA was renamed LM 002 before the real production started. After two more models, the LM 003 and LM 004 (see later on) they decided to produce the LM 002. The LM 003 was basically the same as the LM 002, but it had a 3 Ltr. six cilinder turbo-diesel engine from VM, it was no success, the engine with only 150 Hp. was much to light to power the almost 3000 Kg. heavy LM. The LM 002 is the most expensive and outrageous 4x4 ever made in series production, with it's massive power of the V12 with 444 Hp. it was faster then a Z28 Camaro, it was more luxury than many saloons, and on it's immense tires (325/65 ZR's) it could get almost everywhere. If you've ever seen one, you know how it looks: Big ! The car was as wide as a Countach, as high as 1,80 mtr. and it's weight is 3100 Kg. Can you imagine accelerating a thing like this in 7,9 seconds to 100 Km/h ? It's top speed was 190 Km/h, not bad for a 4x4. Later versions were equipped with the Diablo engine, most cars were delivered to private owners, but several were delivered to governments and army's. The Saudi Arabian army had ordered 300 of them, the first 143 had the Countach engine and the rest was delivered with the Diablo engine. The nick-name of this car ?.....RAMBO-LAMBO ! http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/5849/ "One slip and down the hole we fall" Check out the new forum on the block at: http://www22.brinkster.com/originalstryder/db/ |

I know what you mean. I don't fit very well into small cars either, and i'm not very tall! Just got long legs. Last week i was walking back to school after an afternoon at the Shop, getting told that i now have a 1710, and making arrangements to pick up my Big@$$BoxLot of software and other bits the next day, and one of the dorm masters pulls up on the road beside me where i am, and asks me if i want a ride back to school. I get into her Nissan, and it took a bit to get myself sorted out...in decent size cars, like Falcons or Commodores, or even a single or dual cab utility, or 4-wheel drive vehicle, i just plop myself into the seat. Thats why I want to avoid getting a small car if i can. Otoh, seeing as though i don't even have a license yet, I don't really need to worry about that ATM! -------------------------- "I keep my friends close, but I keep my enemies closer" - Unkown Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6
