There is no such thing as an 8.1 ROM. The ROM in a Mac remains the same regardless of system software. You'll need a Quadra ROM to run Basilisk II, which you can dump off of any Quadra or Centris that you legally own. Then, you need the OS 8.1 install CD, which you can get off of eBay. I suggest that you just go out and look for an actual Quadra to liberate. The performance will be better, you can use SCSI peripherals and NuBus cards, and you'll be able to run A/UX, Linux, and BSD.Official 68kMLA Music and NeXT Expert OpenStep Page at http://openstep.topcities.com/ Macs Liberated: SE, IIsi, Quadra 700, 6100, PB 5300, PowerMac 5400 PCs liberated from Windoze: 3 |

Perhaps he means 'CD-ROM', which the '8.1 CD' technically is./Mr Lynn Curator of: SE (6.0.4), SE w. 020 accelerator (6.0.8), SE w. no HD, IIfx (7.1), IIci (bad HD); plus various PPCs in family (blue G3/350 is main Mac these days). |

It sounds more as if he is asking for a ROM that would run Mac OS 8.1. The ROM that comes to mind is the Quadra 840AV ROM.------------------ Captain Z - Mobile Operations Commander 68K Macintosh Liberation Army 20 68K Macs Liberated Visit Captain Z's Starbase of EV Stuff |

The Quadra 840av ROM is too big at 2MB. It's the only 68k machine ROM that will not work with Basilisk II. I'd suggest a Quadra 950 or 800 ROM instead...but since I have neither of these machines, I don't have the ability to get the ROM file...666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 I Have No Legs! |
