Lemmings is, for sure! I was playing it on my 840av with my daughter the other day. She kept calling the lemmings "babies" and laughing hysterically when they died. I only have the Demo copy, though...I have no idea where to find a full copy.

Lemmings is available at http://mac.the-underdogs.org/ along with many other 68k Mac games. I've never heard of the other two games you mentioned, but in my years of Macintoshing, I've learned something; if a program isn't available for the Mac, chances are that a similar Mac program exists and is better than the program you were looking for.

Speaking of games, have you played Pathways into Darkness, Marathon, or Abuse yet? If not, DO SO IMMEDIATELY! They will all run on a 68k Mac, and they're all great games. You can get Minotaur, Pathways into Darkness, Abuse, and the three Marathon games from the Bungie online store at http://shop.ecompanystore.com/bungie/BNG_ProductList.asp?CATALOG=BUNGIE&ID=1&TYPE=Games It's only $10, and I guarantee that it will be the best $10 you ever spent!

Have fun!

P.S. - Marathon on an 840av with an AppleVision 1710 (even a dim one like mine) is absolutely KICK-ASS!!!!!!

Abuse was probably one of the best side-scrollers ever made for the Mac, and it came with a level editor (always a plus). No discussion of Mac games would be complete with out mention of Bolo (I do not have a download link handy) and Escape Velocity ( http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/ev/ )

Another great Ambrosia game is Maelstrom. I still play that game on my IIsi, and I'm always surprised by how fast it runs.

If you have a joystick, A-10 Attack!, A-10 Cuba, and F/A-18 Hornet are always good to have. I haven't tried them on a Quadra, but they run pretty darned smooth on my 6100.

Warcraft and Warcraft II (not the Battle.net Edition) will run on a Quadra, and they run quite well. They're especially fun to play if you've got two Macs networked with a serial cable.

You can't miss out on Maxis' sim games. Sim Ant, Sim Farm, and SimCity2K are my favorites. They'll all run on a 68k.

Speaking of Marathon, there are tons of free total conversions that will run on a 68k. Devil in a Blue Dress, Excalibur: Morgana's Revenge, and others will run well on a 68k. More graphically complex scenarios like Tempus Irae, Marathon EVIL, and Marathon Rubicon will feel slow.

I just dug up two more links to articles relating to gaming that I wrote during my writing for MacInstruct: see http://www.macinstruct.com/reviews/bungie/index.html and http://www.macinstruct.com/tutorials/games/old/index.html

Doom runs okay on a Quadra, and you can get it at The Underdogs (see above), but it gets boring quickly. Wolfenstein 3D, also at The Underdogs, is another mediocre 3D shooter.

I'm nutz. I bought a full boxed copy of Sim City 2000 CD version and the Urban Renewal Kit off a guy in Scotland for a princely £10 (inc. p&p) just so I could have a legit copy. I used to have the original v1.0 for DOS on my PC when it was released, oh happy days <sniff>

I tried the underdog link but Netscape didnt like it. The first time it complained about javascript errors, then I tried again and Netscape just quit. Netscape 4.0.8. Shall I try disabling java? and/or using Netscape in text only mode?

With javascript disabled & text only the underdogs page loaded. Then I clicked images so that I was able to see the various links. Then I clicked Games alphabetically & then Netscape froze.

make sure you clear out your excess cookies and cache before trying to get onto troublesome sites with old NN revs.

explore carefully like you are on a recon mission

get in check it out level by level.

on each sortie either "copy this link location" and paste the url's into a wordproc or spreadsheet file.

alternately, if the system locks up when netscape dies, bookmark each new level and then quit methodically after each new success so that you don't lose your newly acquired recon info.

each new sortie begins a little deeper into enemy territory leapfrogging straight to the insertion point from the deepest boorkmark/URL that was established in the last probe.

i haven't had to resort to this approach much at all since i deep sixed america offline as my main ISP.

give it a shot, sounds like something is choking the crap out of your memory or cache or pounding the living **** out of the navigator code trying to start up internet expoloder on you to run a pop-up or pop-under or pagejack you.

i use cookie cruncher systematically in a naive attempt to forstall their efforts. just remember, i really haven't got a clue about this stuff, i was forced to find ways to avoid needing to do a hard reset on a regular basis.

dealing with AOL's crap-mac-ap has forced me to develop some dirty close combat tricks to reconnoiter and get into places i should have ready access to and i've been able to get to directories where i don't think people really want me to be in the same way.

dunno, i didn't ask and i certainly didn't tell.

i think of it as: PLAYTIME!

trying to translate it into military parlance is way too much like work! BLEH!

Yeah, it's just a bad CRT...no fixing it. Not terrible, and definitely OK for use on my Quadra, which I don't use so much, but not something you'd want conneted to your primary machine.

The military talk is a big turn on

Military organisation could help here.

68k versus

the other comps amd & pentium have thier network organised. We will need to build a rock solid 68k network in order to combat the dark forces.

I dont know where to begin!

Yet................

A search on google illicits these facts,

Turrican flavours:

Turrican: Amiga(origional platform), Atari ST, PC, Commodore 64
Turrican 2: Amiga, Atari ST, PC, Commodore 64
Turrican 3D: Amiga, PC
super Turrican: Snes & various consoles
Mega Turrican: Snes & various consoles

even Amstrad got a version!

So why is the mac ignored?, Perhaps mac didnt like 2d platformers(although 3D version of Turrican was made).

Substation was STE & Falcon only, From what I have seen(demo) Substation is much more interesting than Doom. Substationb was made by UDS an excellent company!

If anyone wants to port these it should? be possible?

The thing is I own a Mac Quadra and a ps1 and niether can have these two games

Still havnt got Lemmings.

There are many good 2D sidescrollers for the Mac, including Abuse (the demo is at http://support.bungie.com/ftp/pub/mac/demos/abuse_demo.sit.bin) and Out of this World.

As for something that's "better than Doom," have you played Marathon yet? If not, download the demo at http://support.bungie.com/ftp/pub/mac/demos/marathon_demo.sit.bin AND DO IT NOW! It's basically Doom with better graphics and a really good plot. The graphics in Pathways into Darkness aren't as good, but it's still a lot of fun. Download the demo at http://support.bungie.com/ftp/pub/mac/demos/pathways_demo.sit.bin

The download link for Lemmings is http://mac.the-underdogs.org/games/lemmingsandohnomorelem-tmg.sit

Netscape 4.0x suxx. Check out iCab 2.81 - it's fast! even on a 68k. And it handles almost any website with ease.
