I'm thinking about making a "keyboard" with 1, just power, or 2, power and enter key, for starting up headless servers and have the ability to shut them down without seeing anything or just pulling power. i don't know if anything like this exists or if it would be easy. i'm trying to get my machines up and going using the least amount of space. Also routing a female port out of it would be nice incase i need a mouse, but not all that critical.

for anybody that's done keyboard hacks, will i just have to hack keyboards for the circuit boards inside or could i make simplified circuitry without losing keyboards. I'd like to make at least 3 of these gizmos. This idea just came to me tonight, so i honestly haven't put anymore thought into it than what you've read.

i'm pretty sure you only need to short the "ADB" wire to either the power or ground line on the ADB cable (DON"T experiment!).

look up something called the "powerkey remote", IIRC it's from "sophisticated circuits". it might still be available, but i doubt it's cheap, it'll give you some ideas either way.

if you have or want to buy an inexpensive PC switchbox, why not just get S-Video plugs from crap shack and hardwire a custom A-B-C-D-etc ADB switchbox and run them all to one KBD/mouse?

or go all out and hardwire an inexpensive VGA/PS2 KVM Switch!
