Today, my job was getting ready to junk a bunch of things from where I work. Before it was all taken over to the school district dump site, it was announced that anyone could take anything they wanted from the pile of stuff.

I scavanged for a minute, and found in the far back, 2 all-in-one form factor LC/Performa 5xx's. Didn't know what they are at first, but when I uncovered them, it was 2 LC 575's. Score!

This brings the total number of liberated 68K Macs to 20.

Whoa! Hey, I'd love to trade for/buy one of the mobo's, if you don't need 'em both! I'm itching to do a Mystic upgrade on my CC...

I found out from my boss why those two units were being thrown out. They were marked as Unrepairable, and are no longer needed for parts (68K systems are basicly phased out of the district ). Here is what I've found in them:

LC 575 #1
32MB of RAM
2 256K VRAM SIMMs
250MB HD
Asante LC PDS Ethernet card

LC 575 #2
4MB of RAM
2 256K VRAM SIMMs
250MB HD

#1 has damage to the casing in the front near the left side of the monitor. Otherwise they look alright. I will be testing the components tonight inside my Performa 550 (verified working)

At this time, I will be testing to see how many of the three (the 550, two 575's) I can get up and running. In the end, I may only have ,my 550 board available.

Over the course of the summer, many of the district's older systems will be getting dumped. This year, a lot of LC 5xx and Power Mac 52xx systems will be getting dumped. If I can obtain a lot of them (10-15 systems total), I will make the parts available to everyone here for little or no cost (besides shipping)

Variants I've spotted floating around, possibly being dumped...
LC 520
LC 550
LC 575
LC 580
LC 630 DOS Compatable
Power Mac 5200/75 LC
Power Mac 5260/120
Power Mac 5400/180
Power Mac 7100/80AV
(And if I'm real lucky) Workgroup Server 7250/120

Too bad there are no guarrentees.

It is my sad duty to report, that both LC 575 logicboards are DOA. On the plus side, the RAM (the 4MB SIMM and 32MB SIMM) both work, all 4 VRAM SIMM's work, and the Ethernet card works.

575 logicboard #1 won't start up at all. Not responsive to power key. Diagnosis is that the board is dead.

575 logicboard #2 seems to power, but not run. It seems to chime, and it sounds to spin up the HD to run, but there is no video. Diagnosis is that the video on the board is dead.

Oh well... at least I completed my Performa 550 again, and I have lots of spare parts.

Too bad the mobo's are dead, however, I would LOVE to take those four 256k VRAM SIMMs off your hands!! I need them desperately for my Quadra 840av! Oh yeah, and the LC PDS ethernet card, too!

Would $6 cover the shipping? I can pay you via PayPal immediately if so!!!!!! Email me!

Captain Z,

It's possible the PRAM batteries are dead. That could explain why the machines don't come up.

The 575 doesn't have the video problem with a dead PRAM battery, I believe.
We really should compile a list of Macs that have the problem...

I know Apple has a list of them, but I can't seem to find it on AppleSpec.
