Ok, so the LC II may not be one of the greatest 68k macs but, its the only one i have right now, so i pick it up at the dump, open it up and what do I see? Some punk had stolen its fan! I figure, thats fine I'll use one i have sitting around. so I plug it in to my Sony Trinitron MultiScan 100sf (the oldest monitor i have) with the normal converter, and being powered by my 7200 'cause i don't have a normal monitor power cable handy. it Starts up with that normal "boing" but the screens all fux0red! it consists of a line pattern like this: | || | || | || | Repeating (it flickers when the HD is being access or when you hit Caps Lock! What do i do? Do i need to get a different monitor or is the computer gonna be used for parts? (Edit: the screen fades in and out when you leave it alone, like its running a screen saver)======================= Run, comrade, the old world is behind you! Sounds like a bit of a VRAM problem - LCII's don't come with vram on the motherboard, only in a simm slot - there's one 68 pin slot which can take a 256k or a 512k vram simm. Might even be entirely possible there's not one in there if some other bits have been stripped! dana 605 605 605 605

I would've just assumed that if there was no VRam you wouldn't have seen anything at all!_________________ Leutennant SCCHICAGO HotLineServer(closed): scchicago.dynodns.net Website(closed): http://scchicago.dynodns.net MyForumOnDelphi: http://forums.delphiforums.com/scchicago NOTE:HL AND HTTP SERVER ARE ONLY AVAILIBLE WHEN I'M ONLINE |

Possibly as the mac attempts to feeds the contents of vram memory to the screen, the ram controller feeds back a few random bits of crap, which gets repeated and... gives you the funky stripes. 475/605s are funny with vram too - they have 2 slots, which take 512k or 1024k of vram in 2x256 or 2x512. If you stick one 256 and one 512 in, you get all kinds of funny visual 'stuff' :) dana

Hey, about those Sun monitors - do you reckon they'd work with the Apple Portait card that has the Sun connector on the back?~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

they really ought to, but with Apple's record for implementing existing industry standards, you'd better check the pinouts!jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

Possibly - though these monitors just have a connector with 2 leads - much like a composite RCA plug. It originally plugged into the terminal motherboard which used to be in the monitor - they're from sun SLC/ELCs. And as for being standard - Sun seems as good at being standard as Apple :D dana

Hmm, it probably wouldn't work anyway unless Sun made a monitor that did 640x870 and I got the cable with the extra 2 coax conductors, rather than one with air. ~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0

if all the signals are straight thru, i don't see why it wouldn't work! the Portrait Card wouldn't really need any sense code info as it only does the one resolution (?) and only two apple monitors used the Sun type cable and only with their own dedicated cards.maybe you're looking for complications where none exist? jt ™. All my 3 68ks are working happily right now. They all have VRam apparently._________________ Leutennant SCCHICAGO HotLineServer(closed): scchicago.dynodns.net Website(closed): http://scchicago.dynodns.net MyForumOnDelphi: http://forums.delphiforums.com/scchicago NOTE:HL AND HTTP SERVER ARE ONLY AVAILIBLE WHEN I'M ONLINE |

I got my 512k Stick of VRAM off eBay today, and, IT WORKS. Luckily it has lots of cool stuff on its HD. Now I just need a LC PDS NIC card.======================= Run, comrade, the old world is behind you! ::68k LC II(1) Other iMac DV SE, PM7500 -200Mhz, PM7200 -75Mhz:: |

Great to hear you got your LCII going. I would have also checked the VRAM. Once when i was playing around i took the vram out of my LCII just to see what would happen when i started it back up, and it did the same. Worked fine when i put the VRAM back in though.-------------------------- Pizzabox LCs RULE!!!!!!! Warrior maclover5 68k Macintosh Liberation Army Number of 68ks Liberated: 6
