...what I'm doing online on a Sunday, well the answer is I'm at work. The story is that I (along with the other 200 or so) AT&T Worldnet agents working here in North Hollywood have all been laid off, at least tentatively. We have a little less than 3 months left on the job before we're kicked out and they're shuffling schedules around a bit to make sure everybody still gets some decent hours before we're on unemployment. I'm really not that disappointed, though. It's been a good 3 and half years with the company, and everything I know about the PC/Wintel world I learned here (it pays to know thine enemy!). Plus, I'm officially starting my own business doing graphic/web design. I have one good client so far, and I've made a little over US$1,000 just doing a PowerPoint presentation, a company logo and two business cards. I do need a faster Mac, though, as it takes forever to rasterize Illustrator docs on my 7500. So, I'm saving up for en eMac!  666th poster and 666th thread-creator

good luck with everything, comrade!just remember that render times only matter under deadline, otherwise speed doesn't really matter if you can offload it onto a machine you don't need to use for other tasks during the process. jt  ™.

having faster render times become tedious within days of purchasing a new computer  is even more infuriating!  I REALLY can't stand that!

He's probably right about the faster render times would seem slower the longer that you had the computer._________________

That's true, and all things are relative. When i hear people complainign that their 450 and 533MHz G4's don't render fast enough, it just really makes me angry, though. Time is money after all!! 666th poster and 666th thread-creator

<rolleyes> yup! time is money, the time you save using one fast computer is REALLY EXPENSIVE! use an appropriately spec'd machine to offload the rendering from your main machine onto a second tier machine that runs as long as it needs to while YOU waste none of YOUR priceless time waiting for a much better machine to "save" you time/money so you can do the next thing YOU need to do with YOUR TIME!computers all wait at the same speed . . . but people can only wait just so long. CPU's and electricity are cheap, i like jerry pournelle's "chaos manor" multitasking strategy. use AT LEAST ONE CPU per task! jt ™.
