...what I'm doing online on a Sunday, well the answer is I'm at work. The story is that I (along with the other 200 or so) AT&T Worldnet agents working here in North Hollywood have all been laid off, at least tentatively. We have a little less than 3 months left on the job before we're kicked out and they're shuffling schedules around a bit to make sure everybody still gets some decent hours before we're on unemployment.

I'm really not that disappointed, though. It's been a good 3 and half years with the company, and everything I know about the PC/Wintel world I learned here (it pays to know thine enemy!). Plus, I'm officially starting my own business doing graphic/web design. I have one good client so far, and I've made a little over US$1,000 just doing a PowerPoint presentation, a company logo and two business cards. I do need a faster Mac, though, as it takes forever to rasterize Illustrator docs on my 7500. So, I'm saving up for en eMac!

sucks that you have to work today, but hey! They're paying you!
still sucks to be stuck at work on the weekend though.

I keep my friends close, but I keep my enemies closer.

good luck with everything, comrade!

just remember that render times only matter under deadline, otherwise speed doesn't really matter if you can offload it onto a machine you don't need to use for other tasks during the process.

Render times are tedious! I can't stand them!

This is true, and if I get to keep any of these 7100's I hauled, I might actually be able to do that!!

having faster render times become tedious within days of purchasing a new computer is even more infuriating! I REALLY can't stand that!

He's probably right about the faster render times would seem slower the longer that you had the computer.

That's true, and all things are relative. When i hear people complainign that their 450 and 533MHz G4's don't render fast enough, it just really makes me angry, though. Time is money after all!!

<rolleyes> yup! time is money, the time you save using one fast computer is REALLY EXPENSIVE! use an appropriately spec'd machine to offload the rendering from your main machine onto a second tier machine that runs as long as it needs to while YOU waste none of YOUR priceless time waiting for a much better machine to "save" you time/money so you can do the next thing YOU need to do with YOUR TIME!

computers all wait at the same speed . . . but people can only wait just so long. CPU's and electricity are cheap, i like jerry pournelle's "chaos manor" multitasking strategy. use AT LEAST ONE CPU per task!
