I've tried netscape 3.01 and 4.08 on my performa 636 33MHz. With 3.01 I get lots of crashing unless I turn the java stuff off. With 4.08 pages load so slowly. What's the best browser to use on a 68k? I hope it's not IE! uggh!mathgeek 68K Macs Liberated: LC, Performa 636, IIx |

I really like Netscape 4.08...for me, it loads pages faster than iCab, which most people would tout as the fastest browser. If you're mostly browsing text-only sites, you may want to use a more stripped-down browser, but as far as my experience goes, NS 4.08 is the best for modern/graphic-intensive sites.666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 I Have No Legs! |

iCab is solid, slow and reliable. Plus it's the only 68k browser that's still actively updated that I know of. It's also, as a bonus, good for debugging HTML -- Mark Benson FlatPackMacs http://fpm.gotdns.com 2nd Lieutenant - 68kMLA, LC Quartermaster Flat Packing Macs for 68k MLA airlift excercises Macs Liberated = 14! |

iCab 2.8 beats Netscape 4.0x hands down in terms of speed on a 68k. Besides, there're way too many javascript popups in Netscape. Guess I'm sticking to iCab.

I'm not too fussed about the atariness or not of iCab - but the times I've tried it, it's been a complete dog. Other people find NS4.08 to be slow-as, where here it works quite speedily - and IE3 is a pretty quick browser also. The best option is to go find which browsers are compatible with your system, and run them for a little while. Don't worry about user interface differences, try to immerse yourself into the way each browser works, and you'll eventually find one you can't live without. Works for me anyhows, and it's how I started using Mozilla on OSX :) dana

Dana has it right, try a few, but consider that NS4 is SLOW and IE3 is generally good in that department. IE3 is kinda buggy on my Q660av and sometimes on my Q800, but ill take speed over compatibility in many cases{ candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 3} { My baby: Q660av } |
