I dug out my old color stylewriter pro earlier, to mess with it and maybe make it work again. It had problems of clogged ink heads when i put it away last. So I fire it up, trying to make it do some print head cleanin', and I hear some sizzlin', and then smoke starts coming out from the print head area!! I look at the printhead closer, and there's a tracing glowing hot on the top PCB of the print head!! I power it off, and the smokin' stops. Then I took the print head out, and sure enough, one of the tracings had burned, and it reeks of burned PCB now! So the print head is deceased, and probably is a part that I can't find anymore... So there you have it, the smoky death of my SW Pro's printhead...

print heads...now that's on the actual printer itself, right? or is that on the cartridge?

On the 'Pro, the print head is a separate cartridge that drops in, fed by 4 separate ink tanks, one for each color. That print head is the thing that went up in smoke. The parts of the printer itself look OK still. I'd looked about finding a print head for it a while back, but I wasn't able to find one anywhere...

From my own research(or maybe somebody here mentioned it), I have discovered that the printhead for a Canon BJC-600 is interchangeable with the CSW Pro. If you can find an old Canon, there you go...

I think it's the BJC-6000 but I could be wrong. You can definitely find a printhead for that model. I just bought a brand new boxed printhead for a Color SW 2500 on eBay. You just need to know the Canon part #. I posted a thread a while back in balloon help, I think, that linked to a knowledge base page with part #'s for Apple/Canon printers

Scratch that. It was in this forum. Makes sense. Here's the link

Is there some kind of etiquette regarding post edits? Does anyone care that this post could have been added to my last one? It just seemed easier this way

my rule of thumb is: if i ever manage to post something without a typo, there's no way i'm ever going to edit it!

otherwise i keep addin' crap to a post as long as there's a typo still in it and it's not too far from the end of the page.

I did some searching around on the net for the printhead that fits the color SW pro. I couldn't find hardly anything! All I could find wherever I went was the ink tanks, which I already have. I found one of 'em on eBay, it's around $20, with 3 days to go. They must not make the actual print head anymore. BTW the model number printed on my dead print head is AG6-7307. The one on that ebay auction is model number QY6-0031, so there must be a couple different ones that work. I tried searching for those model numbers but again my search was fruitless...

i'll bet it'd be cheaper and easier to look for a used BJC-600 that's NOT on eBay. dunno, jus' guessing!

Thought about that... I remember seeing an old bjc-600 up at that shop up in Valparaiso like a couple months ago... or maybe one will turn up around here in ohio...

I have a Stylewriter 1200 & had thought, nay had been convinced that I could use a colour cartridge with it.

I followed the above link & the page that it links too seems too suggest that my Stylewriter 1200 is black & white only.

Was I really this mistaken?
