This has been in the back of my mind lately. I heard from some mac dude i ran into one day that said that the newer nubus ethernet cards could outperform the onboard ethernet of the quadras (and other macs with built-in ethernet). I don't know if it's true, he said something about the built in being 2 bit and the nubus cards being 5 bit (??? i'm quoting the guy, i wasn't sure about believing such a statement.). I had this discussion like a year ago and i just thought of asking now.Sgt. Thelip Heavy Weapons Specialist 950 division Liberated Macs: 12 Creator and Keeper of THE NEWTON STYLUS ALLIANCE |

I have no clue. *scratches head* I'd assume they were the same unless the guy had a really new nubus ethernet card and one of the oldest quadras with an onboard ethernet. Perhapps he also has a 10bT onboard and a 100bTX on the nubus? That would make a performance difference._________________ Leutennant SCCHICAGO HotLineServer(closed): scchicago.dynodns.net Website(closed): http://scchicago.dynodns.net MyForumOnDelphi: http://forums.delphiforums.com/scchicago NOTE:HL AND HTTP SERVER ARE ONLY AVAILIBLE WHEN I'M ONLINE |

sounds more like 10 vs 100 Mbit comparisons to me, there are a few of the NuBus variety out there. dunno really, doesn't make a lot of sense to me any other way are you sure your friend even knows what a NuBus card IS? <rolleyes>then again, we're talking about an Apple implementation! =8-\ jt ™. 100 base-tx nubus cards are super rare - what's the chance the guy had one of those? I've actually heard talk of this before, too. Maybe something to do with how much the processor has to get involved? That's pure speculation, I have no actual data on that, but something along those lines makes sense in my head...{ candyPunk } { Captain of Observation, 68k MLA } { 68k Macs liberated: 3} { My baby: Q660av } |

ok, I also had no clue of what he was talking about at the time and shrugged it off. I'm glad to know that none of my mla comrades have any idea either. I don't feel so lost anymore. OK, i'm going back to my quadra project. thanks. maybe somebody will see this thread and know something else.Sgt. Perhaps he had one of those 12" ethernet cards with onboard RAM and CPU, in which case the NuBus ethernet wouldn't load the CPU. I'm not sure if any existed in NuBus form, tho!~Coxy - Leader, Tactical Operations Unit Mayor of NuBus City v3.0
