When you say TCP/IP, what exactly do you mean? HTTP service, FTP, or what exactly?

He's talking about AppleShare IP. I've accessed the server, and it works real nice.

Is there any hope of running AppleShare over IP over HTTP?

Can we get the service manuals up there? It's be really good to have them availiable over HTTP for when you're in the field.

OK, i first want to state that your server is a great idea. Secondly though, i think we all need to be aware that you can find the mla forums by simply searching on google and that goes for all the info in the threads is all found on google. Soooo... what i'm saying is that we have to be careful about what we publicly say about servers and where to find certain files. This is just a thought. I'm just being cautious because i want the mla to be around for a long time and same goes for all the members.

Good comment thelip.

I've mentioned it before, and tonight, I'm planning on looking thru the hotline server and such, and seeing how illegal things may be on it.

My thoughts are this:

Drivers: drivers should be submitted to the Mac Drivers Museum. no need for us to host drivers, although mirroring the MDM every once in a while to make sure that if they go down, we can post it all again might be a nice idea. drivers that are still SOLD should NOT be on our servers.

OS: Apple doesn't want anyone but them to host OS software. Other ssites have been given Cease and Desist orders. Trrad lightly. (A/UX... could be tolerated)

Old versions of currently released software: Ala PageMaker/Photoshop. not having looked of late, hosting PageMaker 6.0 would be bad. 5 I think we might get away with.

the trick is that while posting ANYTHING that is still under copyright is illegal, many software companies don;t particularly care if their old version are passed around, especially not for the old systems we want to use them on. Posting MS Office 6.0 would be bad, whil Word 5.1... no.

One last thing to think about: With the existence of the servers, and the posting of such software, NO Mac publication like MacAddict would write about us on their websites or magazine. It's not kosher to showcase groups that knowingly do stuff illegal, even if a majority of people beleive that it should be ok to distribute old versions of software
