I have some software but it is in disk images, how can I get at it?

as usual the hopeless stuffit which I seem to remember claiming to do disk images does sod all apart from pretend it will do it & then dosnt.

Use Disk Copy to write the disk images to actual disks or mount them on your desktop.

yup, you need disk copy to translate disk images http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/Utilities/Disk_Copy/
