I am using Netscape 4.0.8 & ASDA wont let me onto thier website :-/ That isnt the reason I posted, the reason I am posting is cos whilst browsing using Netscape 4.0.8 It tends to say loading 96% at 3.1k or somthing similar and then the computer halts for anything between 10 seconds and 2 mins in fact no I have had a frozen computer for 3 or 4 mins. Can I prevent this? I am looking also for some ftp software as I want to upload my web page. But do I upload it to....... I will find that out whilst running the software perhaps? shaktiman |

Have you tried clearing the cache and cookies? They might be telling the website false information.Jeremy "I'll see you on the Dark Side Of The Moon" - Pink Floyd Covert Ops 68k Hacks General Macs Liberated:18 ENTER THROUGH THE GATES |

It is a sweet natured and perhaps ingenious reply but it is of no help nevertheless. It appears to me that netscape creates a cache but the it spend a long time looking through the cache when it would be just as fast for it to search the web, I have therefore provided for a very small cache and i deed although this has not made my computer perfect their is a marked improvement in performance. shaktiman |

It stalls after it's gotten the whole page loading and it has to render the page. You've probably noticed that the stalling occurs with larger pages more than with smaller ones. Only a faster processor will shorten the delay.Try WebFree, as discussed in your Speeding up Netscape post. A good FTP program is Fetch. You can get a free web page host at http://www.topcities.com/ and upload your page according to the instructions. Be sure to call your front page index.html or it won't work. It is well known that on OS 7-9.2.2 some browsers do have random freeze episodes. I have exactly the same problems on a 7300/200 w/ 384MB RAM so it's not his CPU. It is a very fine balancing act getting the size of the cache right, so I am told, to prevent these occuring regularely. I personally have only expereinced it in IE 5.1 PPC in 9.1 but it is known to effect Netscape more-so and other browsers too.-- Mark Benson FlatPackMacs http://fpm.gotdns.com 2nd Lieutenant - 68kMLA LC Quartermaster Flat Packing Macs for 68k MLA airlift excercises Macs Liberated = 14! |
