I'm planning to open a website devoted to everyone's fave Quadra, the 840av, later this month or early next month (depends how it goes!). It's called Mighty 8 and will be a sub-site from the fpm domain I use (probably fpm .gotdns. com/m8 ).I need ideas. I already have 4 projects: Jackhammer card fitting RAID in the 840av Spigot Power AV guide NuBus Video card installation Guide but need a few more to flesh it out a bit, I will make it mostly like FPM itself and still keep graphics fairly low as even the crushing power of the 840av is not very good at JPEGs! -- Mark Benson FlatPackMacs http://fpm.gotdns.com 2nd Lieutenant - 68kMLA LC Quartermaster Flat Packing Macs for 68k MLA airlift excercises Macs Liberated = 14! |

The Stage II Radius Rocket is, essentially, a second 40MHz '040 inside your Q 840av that can run tasks and whatever you want, you can even think of it as a Dual-40MHz machine. It does have it's own RAM, though, which you can max out at 128MB. The only drawback is that you have to be running system 7.0.1, 7.1, or 7.5. That kind of puts a limit on some of the software you can use with it, but for certain dedicated tasks it can really scream. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 I Have No Legs! |

i'm pretty sure all Rocket software tops out at a basic 7.1 install. i've seen accounts of running a rocket under 7.1 while the host mac had a higher rev of the OS, but i don't remember what it was.Rockets and AV macs are both notoriously finicky when it comes to compatibility, do they actually work together? jt . Well, Radius says RocketShare works under 7.5, but I've never tried it, so who knows. and yes, Rocket's and AV macs don't mix too well. Expect video capture not to work, at the minimum. 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 I Have No Legs! |

oooah this gives me something to muse over... perhaps something unique we could do, as the obsessives we are, is have the central set of links to alla different model 68ks... and different peeps have complete control over their own pages about those boxies.. say SVPs 840av one... and oh, some mad maniac could take over 605s... and so on - nothing wrong with a little overlap, cos there's also the FPM page covering them... that'd be neat, if we had enough of us dana

Really? I didn't think that was possible...I thought both the host machien and the Rocket card had to be running 7.1! I'd still rather use them in a 950, though...but more power to ya! 666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 I Have No Legs! |

A dedicated 840av site?will it feature a project to create an 860av? 68060 cpu upgraded rom all top specs support for 30 gig & higher hard drives support for 50x cd roms along with all origional ports how about a docking type system? ie:- somthing like the duodock? just plug it into the back of the quadra and hey presto you can connect all modern/standard peripherals. yes a dedicated quadra 840av site is definitley called for shaktiman |

Well perhaps a site needs to be like a story, with a beginning, middle & end, how about what the 840av was, its origins, then what the 840av was at its height & then what great things can be done with an 840av.What caught my attention after re-reading this thread is this quote: BTW, with all this talk about Rockets, does anyone know where i can get RocketShare? I might be able to get a Rocket for my 8100 if i can get the 8100 to go, and i can't find RocketShare anywhere, only RocketWare. :(
If an 8100 has an 040 rocket then is this machine a powermac or a 68k? Doubbly if a rocket was made(was it ever made) that had a 601 cpu then could that be fitted into a 68k & then would that be a ppc or a 68k,Finally if we build a teleportation machine & put an 840av in one pod & then attempted to transport it but, oh no, a pesky pc had sneaked in with it, what came out the other end was half pc half 840av.......(ala The Fly) I am now awaking from this nightmare in a cold sweat shaktiman Quadra 840av, prettymuchmaxedout8xcd drive os 8.1 128 meg ram, 500 meg hard drive PPC7600/132, 4.23Gig & 500 Meg drives, 8X cd os 8.6 Performa400(deadintheattick) 3 monitors 15" & 14" & 14" |

HEY!!!did you guys know that the premier issue of the MLAgazine is all about Quadras!!! SVP: I would LOVE IT SO if you could put some of your content for this site into a "magazine-able" form so that I could grace the pages of the MLAgazine with this stuff!!! ALL OF YOU!!! COMEON!! I have ONLY ONE quadra related article in the MLAgazine right now, and based on what I've seen in real magazines and from the other people who've sent me stuff... it sucks...
