Da Penguin Senior Member USA 1094 Posts	Posted - 10 Jun 2002 : 06:17:08 Ok folks, sorrie aboot my HL server being gone for so long... First off took me forever to get my PSU cause UPS sucks at life. Brown Does NOT work for me and is a but @$$ ugly colour as it is... Secondly, get my PSU, find my RAM for some reason doesnt work. So i dig thru all my machines to scrounge up the biggest sticks i have, yay for two 16 meggers! Ok, so comp is good life is good etc.... NOT! Now i have to perform SCSI voodoo to get the files over. I assumed i could have just transferred my OS 8.6 sys folder over but NOOOOOOOOOO. Apparently something i did when installing appleshare IP screwed the sys over....have i said GIR yet? Ok, off to find a 8.5 disc......Nope Turns out i sent it off in a CD-ROM of another comp i sold. Wow im stoopid. Figured its a 250 Mhz machine, i can try 9.1..... HUGE mistake.... Ran so so so so so so so so slow. So now i figure i should go try 8.1 cause i HAVE that... Ok 8.1 refuses to install properly. The disk has been scratched up like its been laying in the street for years so yeah. Now everything gets quiet and i lay hanging off my bed in hopless dispair... But....Ah HAH! iMacs (rev a.) came with 8.1!!!! breakthru!!!!! Not really......I had to dig thru the folders for hours finding the regular sys install (not the "offical" one u see when u open the disk...) Ok....turns out that was only 8.0......not 8.1.....and 8.0 does not like starting up my machine. So what must i do? upgrade to 8.1. This is where the "iMac-ish-ness" of the sys CD comes into play. It wont let me upgrade. Plain and simple. BUT, praise allah i had a smart moment and remembered that the 8.1 update was on the HL server HD which i had laying over point there! I update the sys software and woohoo! we have a kik @$$, 10 GB available, 250 MHz, 100 Base Ehternetified DSL hosted server!!!! Uh oh......Turns out 8.1 is still too old for taste. Half the apps dont work any more (including HL server...) because of various libraries and components missing. And thats where i am now, in search of an 8.5 install disk.....or DL from HL or yeah.....HELP! I'm so used to the buzzing spinning noise of the HD it was weird when it wasn't there. If you remember which computer you left the 8.5 cd in the drive with maybe you can contact them and get your CD back.
