I'll have pics of my collection up within a few hours - Jenn just got a new digital camera, and I'm borrowing it for the day.

(Should I put some piccies of her up, too?)

My collection, if anyone's interested...

I'll probably have photos of Jenn up later today - she wants to go out somewhere and take them after she gets off work.

that is one Big@$$ ROOM! student or faculty digs?

when i was in college it was a HUGE deal when they put three (?) terminals and a printer in a room on the ground floor of the junior/senior men's (apartments) residence. (the year the Apple 1 shipped) halfway in between then and now, the compact mac era (the real deal, not the crappy "classic" revival imitations) was in full swing!

what a difference a decade(+) makes!

My favorite tidbit in bigsadhu's room is at 100% right-side, 60% up in the first piccie. Looks like a lidless G3 powerbook that is plugged-in, networked and working Such a compact form-factor too (kinda like a black, 1/2 height, 1/2 width XServe ) BTW, bigsadhu, I like your home page and hope you put a link to 68kMLA when you get your Mac page constructed. Oh, and I'm envious of your Bondi-beach overlook -- I was there last Sept. and Bondi's great!

Student rez... it's one of the rooms in the basement that was converted to a double room - a very large double room. But since the basement rooms aren't generally rented out over the summer, I was able to get it to myself.

I wish I had a room to let stuff spill out in. I have to keep everything but my 7500, Quadra 840av and Duo 280c boxed up and in the closet. Even now the SAF is demanding I get the Quadra out of sight!

It won't be such a picnic for me next year, let me tell you. I'll be living in an apartment (with a much smaller bedroom than I have now) with two unrepentant Windrones. I have already been threatened with death if I allow any of my Macs out of my room for any reason!

And, to make matters worse, it's going to be harder to make Swap Shop hauls, because I'll be living some distance from the campus and I don't drive! And unfortunately, large parcels of computer equipment tend not to work so well on public transit...
(Though Brian may be willing to help, if I ask really nicely and maybe help him haul some old PC stuff... *shudders at the thought*)

I'll probably be living in my high school's dorm next year, so I will definitely NOT be able to have all my macs with me . The dorms are about as small as my room, and I'll be sharing it with someone else.

I can only assume that those two windrones are afraid they might see something they like if they saw one of your macs. They'd feel pretty stupid if they discovered that OS 7.1 on a 68030 is nicer than XP on a 2 GiggleHertz sPentium. patience! just bide your time and you'll get what you really need and eventually you'll get the things that you're lusting after now.

i have held onto a full color brochure since 1988, picturing an SE with the Radius 16 Accelerator (w/copro) just like mine! next to it in the picture is the original Radius FPD connected to the FPD video interface daughtercard for the 16. VERY SOON NOW, i'll have the entire config recreated for my original CPU/16! and it's only been 14 years in the works!

Well spotted on the PB... Its unfortunately suffering from chronic hingitis . Soon to be fixed though I hope - I have a replacement en route from NYC with LML as we speak! Its not quite an X-serve, but hey! Hot swappble drive bays, redundant back-up power supply... it could almost do the job. That was my main machine until the B&W came along about a week ago. Unfortunately its a bit out-gunned now, 'specially since I upped the hard drive space in the tower to 110 gigs! Thanks for the comments re the homepage. Its been very neglected lately, but I'm hoping it will float to the top of my projects list sometime soon. You're right, Bondi's great! (especially in summer) If you're ever back this way, look me up.

I found a suitable battery, but haven't managed to get it booted yet. Things aren't quite as they should be somewhere... but thats a topic for another thread

The //e card is still in pre-testing phase (I haven't had a chance to play with it yet). I do have another on the way though in case this ones dud. I've got the complete asimov archive on a CD somwhere, so I hope one of them works!

More accurately I have a busted Tangerine iBook which, though pretty to look at, is not all that useful. One of my friends gave it to me because he claimed that his girlfriend got pissed off while playing the Sims and threw the gamepad at the screen (His girlfriend claims that he got pissed off because he thought she was cheating on him, and threw it at the wall). After spending a week trying to get it to run headless with Timbuktu so I could use it for an MP3 player hack, I finally gave up and used its larger hard drive to replace the one in my wallstreet.

I wish i had pictures of my room when it was all matrix-ized. Having a mile and a half (yes i did measure!) of cables running around hanging from your ceiling can look so so very kool. But the PAF threw that idea out so now i just have a simple desk and i can acutally see my floor...
*sigh*
I remember the good old days...

P.S-That means i can have the ibook?, right anubis??

from the looks of your collection, make sure you stop in at Tekserve if you're in NY! you'll love the collection of old technology.

what are the two sewing machine portables in the pic and what are the specs? awesome stuff, A!

The two lunchboxes are a Kaypro 2X, which has a flaky power supply, but will boot. The other is a Televideo that I have never gotten to work, it was part of a lot of Televideo equipment that included a server (with a whopping 10 megabyte hard drive) that hooked up to multiple dumb terminals with serial cables. I think the lunchbox may be a dumb terminal as well, and the hard drive in the server is shot so I can not test it.

My personal favorite of the non Mac arcane computers I have is a DEC 100 that runs DOS 1.0. I would go take some pictures, but I am too busy watching the Ebay cult thread...

OK I found the pics on my site so take a look, you have no excuses now

http://fpm.gotdns.com/images/macroom2.jpg
http://fpm.gotdns.com/images/macroom3.jpg

It ain't much of a mess but that's cause I don't have any room in my University digs room to make a mess in! Since the later photo was taken I have moved the IIci under the desk ontop of my other (somewhat war torn but still working) one. There is a Performa 630 on there the other side of the 840av now.

I'm planning a 'photo shoot' when I get home before I set ym desk up so I have a Photographic record of each of my machines. I have acquired a few more in the mean time too....

If you want to see my collection before I went nutz and bought 4 more machines (I AM intending to update FPM this week) here's the link:

Right now the demands of my employment prevent any further conquests, however you can see my main Mac at the link below. When I am finished with my current employment, I will no doubt spend greater amounts of time pursuing additional Macs. I have seen a few that I wanted to purchase, but either funds or SAF prevented the purchase. (She dosen't know I have 9 Macs, she thinks I only have 3)

P.S. - I cleaned up my desk just so you all could see what I really have. I've since replaced the StyleWriter with a Personal LaserWriter 300.

Macs Liberated: 9 - 6400/180 (main Mac), 660AV, 636CD, LCIII+, LCII (2), Classic II, Classic and SE.
