I once had only both of those working and noticed that startup speed and internet was better on the Centris. It had 8ram and the 6100 had a beefy 40RAM. i have heard of this before is there an explanation?

What version of Mac OS are you running on the two machines? If you are running a variant of System 7.x on both machines, the 610 may have a slight edge in performance due to the fact that it runs 68k code natively, whereas the PPC has to run it in emulated mode.

In addition to the quadra-beats-G1-emulation issue, there may be HD speed issues, extension issues, and other factors.

I never thought about that. Was OS 8 a fat version, then? That is, 68k and PPC versions in one? Or would it too be run under emulation? 8.1 is the last OS that will run on a 68k mac, so unless 8.0-1 were fat versions or installed different things based on the machine, what you said would apply to any system running on both 68k and PPC. Oh, and in terms of actual speed, come on: that 6100 is faster. I play MP3s on a performa 6115(almost identical). Everyone knows that a 68k mac, especially that one, can't play MP3s.

8.1 had both 68k and PPC code. (Power Macs ran the 68k under emulation)
8.5 was 100% PPC native.

Some of 7.5 was PPC code, the "most used portions", supposedly.
