Well, I have been making a plugin for EV for a long time now, and I just finished putting in the "easter egg ship". I could not resist adding a little 68K Mac propaganda. The Mac model was rendered in Bryce by the way.

If you really want to put some 68KMLA propaganda, drop in a government named "68KMLA" and add the properties that it always helps out when it can. Then you could create a bunch of new personalities for some of the common names of the 68KMLA.

Hey! 68kMLA EV Nova Plug! Why NOT do it huh?

how many people are at all interested or experianced? I know I did quite a bit of plug making with the original EV.. I was mission writer for the delta-V project, which dioed, and has been resurrected for EV Nova.

I'm interested, and have more than enough experience in planning exquisite plug in and not programming them after the first few spobs... :D

A 68K plugin would be cool. You could have some sort of Mac vs Windows thing going on for the plot. But what would one use for weapons? Floppy disk guns? CD ninja stars? I can just see these Macs whipping out some Sticks of Justice...

I have an idea...

What about making a plug-in that would add a couple weapons, and a couple mission strings, and a whole TON of Personality ships of the 68kMLA Govt. that fly around the galaxy?

One of the Pers could haail the player, and offer a mission... or if the player boards a sspecific derelict ship they get a string started...

Stuff like that... It'd be eassier than writing an entire game the way ATMOS did, or Delta-V is doing.

Some ideas from my coffee-enhanced (or coffee-adled) brain:

The disk drive fires a stream of floppies (different colors denoting different warhead types: armour-piercing, high-explosive, etc.)

Or, the Plus whips around and flays the enemy with a SCSI cable -- those Centronics connectors really hurt!

The screen image could narrow down to a bright point of light and fire off a laser beam.

The keyboard could be a highly mobile weapons platform that detaches, maneuvers and fires off all its keycaps.

And, when a Plus dies the screen shows a "Sad Mac" before emitting the chimes of death.

hmm... interesting ideas... definately things to be played with...

We wouldn't want to make a plug that is unbalanced, with ultra powerful weapons...

Let's see... the Mac Plus with the CRT discharge laser... the graphic of the screen coming to a point should work.. look at the way the Asteroid Miner opens its arms to fire secondary weapons.

"SCSI Flail: this is an interesting aanti-fighter weapon that is used at close range. Much like a large bull whip, it is mounted on the outside of your vessel and is turreted to bash oncoming ships. It comes in 2 models: the C50 and lower powered DB25. Due to the specialized targeting system, a ship can have no more than 7 SCSI Flails at one time."

The SCSI whip could be done as a weapon that detonates right after it is fired, has a large blast radius, and has an explosion graphic that shows a SCSI cable whipping around in a circle. It would have to be a point defense turret though, or AI ships would not fire it, and it would have to be fired from the center of the ship (exittype -1 I think), or it would look goofy. The detaching keyboard could be done using a keycarried altsprite I think, but I don't think you can give a ship both a weapon animation, and a keycarried sprite at the same time. Maybe have several different compact Macs, one with the CRT beam, and one with the keyboard. A custom explosion graphic could be made for the death sequence, showing the Sad Mac with the chimes of doom set for the explosion sound.

I can just see a Mac II that's top lifts up as it barrages the enemy with a hail of Nubus cards...

I can help. I made about 75% of a huge original EV plug, and novatools makes everything so so simple once you understand a few basic concepts. I'm in if it's a go.

Here's a crazy idea...

what about a weapon like the EMP blasts... except it looks like a Sad Mac and explodes in a hail of Hex codes...

I say we do it. KEY TO REMEMBER: This must be a fun plug that does not unbalance the game. Nothing TOO powerful...

And what aboutmaking a mod that changes the look of your console? Like, turns it all into System 6 Control Panel... with a green tint.

Well, if you're going to bring in other Mac models, then here are a few more ideas:

A Duo that fires trackballs

A slow lumbering Mac Portable whose lid opens and shuts to engulf other ships

A dual-drive SE with twice the floppy firepower

And you gotta have something with feets

You should make all the mods have special ships. For example: ( I have no idea what computers you all have but this is just an example.)FireWire had a Color Classic, so you could make a ship called, FireWire's Color Classic, or Coxy's Duo or something that anyone using the plugin could buy and play as.

All EXCELLENT ideas - a fun mod like this could be btoh quite popular and beneficial to traffic and membership!
Are we going to go ahead with the planning stage? I can design a medium length mission string, and I already have a model of a Quadra 950...

I can model pretty much any Mac, and I have made lots of EV ships, so graphics will be no problem. The only thing is that I am currently busy making another EV plugin, and I will not be able to devote too much time to a 68K plugin until I finish the one I am already working on.

I was thinking...

What if we DID add a system to the standard EVN universe?

I'm reading thru the EV Nova Resource Bible, and there are TONS of neat things that you can do with outfits and such that are not implemented in the standard story. Stuff like:

~Modifying the look of your screen and controls
~Fake IDs (cleans legal records)
~Acceleration and turning tune-ups
~Multi-jump fixtures
~a device that lets you jam other ships radars so that you APPEAR frendly, and they won't attack you till provoked
~Devices that let you jump into hyperspace without slowing down and stopping
~PAINT JOBS!

So I was thinking... What if we made a system, kinda like the pirate system, off to the side or bottom somewheres, with a few different planets, with different outfit yards. There could be a Mac II planet, and a Classic Mac planet, and so on...

Mods that "change the OS and UI" of your ship, making the radar screen and such look like System 6, or Platinum, or (gasp!) Newton.

well?

I would love to help out with this kind of stuff but I don't know a thing when it comes to programming. I did the whole basic thing in school and that was it. My thought was would the ship models look just like a mac off the shelf or could they have a space-ship look (texture), but shaped and/or modeled after the macs? I was just thinking out loud...

Just thought Id mention to you that there isnt a whole lot of programming involved it is actually mostly modifying resources with resedit.

(My experiance is fairly limited <Im a big cheater> but this is correct on the whole right?)

Correct, it takes no programming skills, just a bit of thought, planning, and thinking clearly, since it involves addition of Hexidecimal based numbering systems :-)

It sounds scarier than it is. Really.

There is a GUI based system too that does the basic stuff for you, that for more advanced design just neds hand tweaking.

If anyone has mission string ideas, post them, and I'll try and draw up a mock up of governmetn stuffs tonight, with personalities.

I squealed a lot when the feetlets were mentioned - or I mentioned them and squealed a lot. Who can remember these things - and that kinda became in in-joke of sorts, and and and... well. They are kinda cute :). Just a nice design feature which ended up on one of the prettiest little cases ever - nothing more!

610/660/6100, 800/840/8x00 and Q605s have feets - with the 605s little perfectly formed rounded ones just the best. No reason for that either, just cos! :D.

For shots of feets for anyone who's REALLY new to it all:

including a Q605 belly shot! oooeer..
